It should be noted that BJ Flores acknowledged that sparring with Vassiliy has improved his game. He announced that to the crowd after his first round KO versus' Ali Supreme. Good sparring partners are hard to come by.... whoever posted that video should have it removed.
beautiful shot. personally i think James Toney totally ruined jirov. his chin/punch resisitance is shot. but it was a good shot!
I will concur that Jirov is most likely shot, but you also gotta remember, sparring is sparring, guys get hurt and dropped all the time. Jirov never did have the chin to go up and fight Mesi and even an old Moorer. In his prime, though, Jirov was the best Cruiser in the world. Too bad he never fought Gomez or Nelson back around 1999 or 2000.
Jirov did well to maintain his composure quickly and retain his balance, Jirov is a special fighter and it is testiment to great conditioning that he stayed on his feet and avoied a complete meltdown.. It does happen a lot in the gym though.. I watched Friday drop Chagaev in the gym once. Those things happen.. Fighters need to push barriers and make mistakes in the gym so they dont make mistakes in fights..
It was a good shot but what happens in sparring needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Some guys always look terrible in the gym, and other guys can dominate in the gym but fall apart when it counts. Flores was impressive in that one minute clip, just don't get carried away.
