Yeah, I was impressed by his whole approach and style, etc., against the Ding-Dong man, and I find him to be a refreshingly intelligent, well spoken and clean boxer, with a bit of Gene Tunney in his style. I'm a fan of his, and will be rooting for him to win in the future.
All the criticism of Wladimir Klitschko is bull**** to me. So if he does fight cautiously at times, as in his last fight with Ibragimov, so what? He has the most effective and dangerous punch offense in the heavyweight division, and will use it, I'm sure against other opponents ahead. He IS the boss of the heavys right now, and will be for some time to come.
I wanna add something. When you're as intelligent as Wladimir you will never forgo that intelligence in the ring. Wladimir knew the threat in Ibragimov and fought accordingly. Sure it wasn't aesthetically pleasing but let's look at the reason why. Ibragimov is a well-schooled Eastern European fighter who knows all the tricks. He's not going to make the mistakes that American heavyweights will make because his amateur pedigree won't allow it. You can make the case that Wladimir would fight the same type of fight against a guy like Chagaev, another well-schooled Eastern European and the result would be less than crowd-pleasing once again. Not to mention that both these guys are southpaws which adds a different dimension. Wladimir has a pHd so he's a thinking man by nature. He'll let his fundamental skills dictate the fight against fighters like the ones I've mentioned because he's already gauged the risks. Why give a technician and opportunity when you can just outbox them? When the threat is minimal you'll see Wlad sell out more and that is reflected in him KO'ing these American fighters like Austin, and Brock. You'll probably see it against Thompson as well. I think Thompson is a pretty decent fighter and he could give Wlad some problems but let's put the word "problems" in context. To me that means he'll take him a few rounds but once Wlad opens up it should be lights out. I don't know much about Thompson's amateur background but I'm willing to guess that it doesn't warrant the respect that Sultan or Ruslan's does. Wlad will fight him accordingly and will stop him.
