Which one of these Jiu Jit Su practioners or better at the style? I'd say Penn. I think he's more well rounded than Nog in the area, Nog is great at applying submissions.
Nogueira is the better Brazilian Jiujitsu practitioner - but BJ Penn is a phenom without a doubt. Penn is the better all around MMA fighter - but on a technical level Nogueira is a master.
Let's not forget Penn is the fastest american to get his black belt in JiuJitSu, so that has to be accounted for. He's a lot better now.
the color of the belt doesn't mean ****. in terms of BJJ knowledge Nog's just got too much experience to get outshined. however if you take the amount of time Nog's practiced BJJ for and look at BJ Penn at that same time period he would destroy Nog p4p and maybe even head to head.
Bjs better...Nogs guard is not as good as BJ...His subs maybe but hes subbing mostly guys who have no idea to defend it... Top game? lets not go there BJs JJ when he won the mundials was at Shaolin, Viera level...no joke..just because he didnt enter Abu dhabi or other grappling comp..doesnt mean he hasnt progressed.. Maybe hes so hard to put down and has spent minimum time on his back unlike Nog that we havent seen some "moves" that would prove what skills he has...although weve seen a little of it against Hughes 2
All the talk about Penn progressing in his BJJ. I don't think anyone doubts his ability to progress, nor his talent. He's freaky good. However, when you are as talented as Penn, I don't think you tend to work as hard. Penn let himself go for years. Attained the championship and pretty much fell off, half hearted training isn't the path to improving ones game in leaps and bounds. If Penn had commited himself to fighting like Nog, its possible he would be the hands down winner of this hypothetical comparison. Penn, superior natural sense of balance, great striking, great Jiu Jitsu, great instinct. He is the most natural fighter I have ever seen.
It's clear how limited most of you guys's knowledge on the subject is. BJ is a FAR superior pure BJJ practitioner than Nogueira, who's hardly even considered world class (definitely not elite) in terms of pure grappling. They're on two different levels.
