Too many people are making the damage argument. That doesn't work. Look at Silva vs Sonnen. Only a fool would think Silva won anything despite the fact it LOOKED like he did more damage. Damage isn't just based on being hit etc, it is also based on skin, bone structure, previous damage etc There has to be a scoring system and everything has to be graded. The scoring system is fine, how you interpret it is up to you. Damage should be considered in terms of who is trying to do damage, not who looked damaged.
I don't think escaping should score points. Reversing should score, but not escaping. Think about it, a takedown is an offensive move and the guy who scores a takedown finds himself in an advantageous position (I do not believe that the guard is a "neutral" position in MMA like it is widely considered in jujitsu). Not only this but takedowns often cause damage to the fighter being taken down, sometimes that damage is zero or almost zero, but sometimes it is very substantial. Getting up from your back does not usually inflict any damage onto your opponent whatsoever and it does not advance you to an advantageous position, merely a neutral position. Moving to a neutral position should not score any points. Now, if you sweep the guy and end up on top that is a different situation altogether.
Wrestlers already HAVE A SIGNIFICANT ADVANTAGE. They can just drop down into that gay fetal position right away, and you can't even soccer kick them in the face. Imagine if Carwin was able to kick Lesnar. He wouldn't be nearly as winded, and Lesnar would be all ****ed up and would think twice next time before steppin in the ring without knowin how to fight for real.
