I thought BJ won rounds 1-3, but whatever. Usually if a fighter I feel won, loses on points I'd make a little noise about it but to be honest, BJ didn't fight like a P4P fighter. He never adjusted, he never went for the kill. Why did he not try and take Edgar down???? It's his own fault, he had fallen into this rythm of just counterpunching until he hurts the guy, then attacking and ending the fight. Well it bit him in the ass here. He'll be back, he'll come out with a different game plan in the rematch and I think he will stop edgar in a few rounds. Not to cut Edgar short, it's just my opinion.
I know they're two different fights, but if Machida won the decision over Rua because Rua didn't, "decisively beat the champion", then Penn shouldn't have lost his title either. I thought BJ definitely took the first two rounds and after that, it was close. Yeah, Edgar took him down twice and didn't look as worn, but I don't think it was enough to give him the title.
Scoring was ****ed....but I can't believe BJ lost to Edgar. BJ wasn't on point like he normally is.....so I think when People/judges saw Edgar doing good work and nullifying BJ's offense they automatically gave him the rounds. I thought it was close but Think it's good Edgar won...this may take his game to a completely new level.
10-9 Penn 10-9 Edgar 10-9 Penn 10-9 Edgar 10-9 Edgar Edgar by 1 !!!!!!!! , i thought the two rounds BJ won he just scraped them , i thought the rounds Frankie won he was the clear winner in that round , in a fight so close i was tempted to give Edgar a 10 - 8 round in rnd 5 as it was imo so one sided .
I think the problem is that at lightweight of the fighters are so fast it very hard to see who got the best of the punching exchanges. It was like watching two squirrels fight, just a blur of motion with slapping sounds. This is purely a situation that comes about through watching on TV. My TV is in great but it's not rubbish either. seeing a fight live like the judges are, it's really easy to see who is landing, and getting the best of those sudden flurries. I think they could use some more high-speed camera work and slow motion.
I agree. And I think it's good that no one here is screaming robbery. I was just curious because, like I said in the opening post, guys on Sherdog etc believe that the judging was a joke. Unless they were only speaking of the judge who game it 50-45 but whatever. Incidentally, the judge who scored it 50-45 wrote an essay on a forum (the UG I believe) explaining his scoring of the fight and generally ranting about nothing. For anyone that's interested, here's part of it : http://www.cagepotato.com/judge-who-scored-it-50-45-frankie-edgar-confirms-he-indeed-insane
I never seen the fight... Penn is one of my fav fighters, disappointed & suprised he lost... especially vs a LW. I wouldnt like to be Edgar in the rematch.
I may of got that wrong and give Frankie 1 and BJ 2 ill have to re watch the first 2 rounds , i had Penn up by 1 going into 4 .
I think Edgar was getting ALOT more credit throughout the fight simply because he was doing so much better then expected. Because the 1st 2 rounds, BJ clearly won and landed the better shots, but the Commentators were all over Edgars nuts.
Frankly, I was stunned how Rogan and co. was riding Edgar. I mean he had great movement and footwork but it means nill when you are getting jabbed and uppercutted every 15 seconds. It actually looks bad for MMA especially how Rogan is such a boxing fan to be discounting BJs boxing like that. It seems just a lack of knowledge. Again if this was a boxing match which it was the 1st four rounds, BJ would have won clearly.
