I thought Sherk would up until the BJ - Stevenson fight, I now think BJ is actually serious about being a champion and he will win.
I think Sherk is going to beat Penn due to an overwhelming desire to redeem himself and that legendary cardio. Sherk is very hard to submit and also very hard to KTFO. Of course, if Penn gets his back, it is all but over. I'm taking Sean this time and predict a humble BJ giving Sean his due respect after the fight. In a perfect fight, I'd like to see Sean take BJ down and let him up a few times to wear him out and then slam him once or twice before GnPing to a KTFO.
Sherk barely inflicted any damage on Florian :deal GSP was on top of BJ and didn't leave a scratch. A GNP stoppage for Sherk is very unlikely.
I think Penn is superior both standing and on the ground so it will be intersting to see how Sherk approach's this fight tactically.
It looks likes Penn is a solid favorite here to come out victorious. Now how about rating your top five fighters in the world right now. My list: 1. Georges St. Pierre 2. Anderson Silva 3. BJ Penn 4. Fedor 5. Uriah Faber (tie) Minataro Nogeira I feel Fedor has reliquished his former #1 rating due to relative inactivity and lack of quality opposition. Linland is a great fighter but no heavyweight and even that match took place over one ago. Nogeira is soon going to recognized as the top big man in MMA if Fedor continues not to fight.
Been same for me: Fedor Couture GSP Silva Rampage Nogueira Shogun(dunno about this one anymore, he better come out as badass as he used to be)
I've been thinking the same thing. Penn came in great condition to fight Stevenson - so even Sherk's powerful gnp backed by his indefatigable stamina may not be enough to outwork Penn.
I think putting Uriah Faber in the top-five is a little premature. Here's my top-five pound-for-pound list: 1.) Anderson Silva- who dispatches solid opponents with ease, with wins over Henderson, Franklin and Lutter. 2.) Georges St. Pierre- who is a great rematch artist, with wins over Serra, Hughes and Penn. 3.) KIMBO SLICE!!! Nah, just kidding. Actually, Fedor Emelianko, although he continues to go down on my list due to inactivity. Last win was a year ago over Matt Lindland (!). 4. BJ Penn- Comes back with wins over Pulver and Stevenson. Looked strong, and is back in top form. 5. Antonio Roderigo Nogeira- One of my favorite fighters, a rare combination of boxing and BJJ. Victory over Sylvia solidified his status as P4P player again. :bbb
penn takes him out in the second round after beating the crap out of him in the first and however long in the second till he decides to finish it a la stevnson and pulver...penn beats up his opponents, even in defeat his opponents are bloodied and bruised, prime example after his close loss to gsp, penn comented saying i spent that night at the bar, gsp spent it in the hospital, other than an act of God, sherk will not win...
Sean Sherk is physically strong. One could wonder what would happen if BJ blows his load, ala the Hughes rematch in the 2nd round (albeit that was at Welterweight, but do consider Sherk has also fought at Welterweight, even holding Hughes to a decision back in the day). I'm going to be crazy and predict a fourth round TKO for Sherk. I know BJ Penn is great and probably will prove me wrong, but Sherk is strong and courageous. That may or may not be enough.
