So true. If you rewatched that fight. When GSP slammed BJ to the mat. BJ was whistling a tune ...thats what kind of mental state hes in...the best there is and the best that will ever be...pure calmness. Now if only he can add 10 minutes to his cardio...He'll wipe out two divisions. He looks good...like I say, the improvement on his body alone knowing BJ is a bigger improvement than any of GSPs in the last year or so. People forget that Georges was unbelievable leading up to the first Serra fight. P4p list Silva Penn GSP Hendo Rampage BTW I dont buy this Penn gassing out even at 5 rounds..Penn will have enough strength in rounds 4 and 5 to stall Sherk style and still go for subs. Sherk cannot finish fights and will be very careful in Penns guard.
I think Penn is in the best shape he has ever been in. I think he finally has his head in the game 100% and do not see Sherk winning the fight.
Sherk may not be strong enough to control Penn on the ground. When Penn is in control he will be less likely to gas. Is that true about him whistling or you just illustrating how calm he was
No he wasnt whistling but they have a gif of this in slowmow.. He was being carried and about to be slammed so of course youd anticipate the facial expression of BJ on impact. It was actyually hilarious, his expression was so calm no change..hes like thinking "did you just do that to me?" I believe GSP will take Penn via decision if they fight again. GSPs MMA wrestling is now on the level of BJs MMA jujitsu. Everything else equal GSP is at least 15 pounds naturally heavier than BJ. In saying that BJ is more dangerous than Georges coz of subs I quite agree though that people are going to be surprised if BJ is stronger than Sherk and takes him down.
Yes. He's undefeated with wins over Sokoudjou, Nakamura, Penn, Franklin and Bonnar. Tito Ortiz is the next victim.
I rationalize it this way. Penn had GSP in his guard and Matt Hughes in his guard neutralized. Could you imagine how fast GSP would gain side control and then mount on Kenny Florian????? Matt Hughes would put Florian in the meat grinder as well. Sherk didn't do much but lay and pray on Florian from what I remember. If Sherk thinks he's gonna lay and pray to a victory, he might be kidding himself against BJ. Also Sean Sherk couldn't finish Franca, Florian or Diaz when he was on steroids...but he's gonna stop BJ Penn in his first fight off them? Not saying it CAN'T happen, but its a fools bet in my eyes.
Aoki should be ranked above him for one. Honestly, his resume is not as good as it looks when taken into context. His win over Penn was a very close affair with a natural Lightweight. His win over Franklin was a young Rich, as was his win over Bonnar. Nakamura is just plain not that good, nowhere near elite. Sokoudjou seemed a big win but he clearly showed that he was a limited fighter, after the hype of landing two big punches in his two Pride wins. I think he could beat Ortiz as well, but none of his wins up to this point are as good as Aoki's wins over JZ and Hansen(and his win over Kikuchi is on the level of most of Machida's as well). He also clearly deserved the Decision years ago against Sakurai which would've thrust him into the limelight earlier.
