I think it's too late for BJ's cardio to ever recover. He's spent too much time in his career getting out of shape, then in shape, then out of shape again, then sort of in shape, then out of shape again.

I think he just plain let himself go too many times, and he'll never be more than a one-round fighter again. :-(

That's a shame, but at least he did have a legendary career and was in a whole lot of awesome fights. It's a shame he couldn't have been more professional, but you can't have everything, nor should you expect it. :conf

    You tit!
I'm not even much of a fan of penn love his style don't like his attitude to training, fact everytime penn has had some1 **** him off he's come out an fought his best an mostly beat the **** out of them! (apart from GSP) When he's had a fight and it's been nice and respectful leading upto it he's not performed with the same intensity! (Edgar 1&2 Diaz prob more)

Yawn. Here we go again with the same old storyline. BJ wasn't motivated, he wasn't in the best shape he could have been. Blah blah.
Look, if Penn can't get motivated for these huge fights, then he doesn't deserve to be considered the ATG that some people think he is.
You can't just excuse away his losses with this same old motivation crap. It's getting old, and it's bs.
Diaz beat him because he was the better boxer. The result would have been the same regardless of how motivated or in shape BJ was. Penn's only hope would have been to try a different game plan, which he did not.

I wanted BJ to win that fight, and I hope he fights again, but I'm so sick of hearing about how we didn't see a 100% BJ Penn, and if he can just get motivated and in shape again he'll be unbeatable.

He is, but I'm still a fan.

Read on his Facebook that he made the comment because he had to. "I had to respond the prefight headbutt." He also thinks that the Diaz camp cussed at him 10 times after the fight.

I love BJ, but what a headcase he is.

Just call it a day, man. It's obvious he can't be successful vs top guys @ 170 (be it lack of commitment, size & strength difference, age), and I don't know if he can (or wants to) drop back to 155 to have a go. I really don't think he has to prove anything else, and since it seems he won't come in to fight in the best shape possible, he has to retire. Fighting on without being mentally 100% behind it and making excuses will only mar his legacy. I think it's obvious the guy is questioning his own desire to fight on at this point, this is what I get from his image. So call it a day.

BJ Penn is the Roberto Duran of MMA. He still has one Iran Barkley fight left in him.

BJ can't use the not 100% excuse anymore as its been going on too many years. Same as Shogun. It is clearly part of their make up to not be motivated all the time. That is a flaw in the game, just like other fighters have other flaws.

Same as Duran not always being 100%. Leonard can't fight him 10 times just so he can try and get the motivated version.

I think BJ could have bossed Diaz because he is more talented and better at boxing than Diaz. However, you'd be a fool not to know Diaz is bigger than you, comes in great shape and will fight you non stop.

Diaz won. BJ has to accept it and find another opponent who he can gas out against.

Bj needs to get in a gym and train with GREAT fighters to continue his career. He also needs to control his emotion in the walkout and in the fight. He has the skills to be the best in the world. But he has no mental control.

As far as him and Diaz he should let it go. Because Diaz broke him mentally, he knows it, and Diaz knows it.

This is a pretty good analogy to be honest. There are many similarities between the skills, career trajectories and mentalities of these two - even down to the fact that (IMO) both achieved the greatest single victories in their respective sports (Duran-Leonard 1, Penn-Hughes 1). The difference would be that Duran had a long period of sustained dominance at his peak (lw in 70s) whereas BJ always bounced between divisions and so never had the same type of long reign.

Duran is my favourite ever boxer and BJ is my favourite ever MMA fighter though.

BlowJob Penn is a whining delusional ******. Even his own fans have had enough. Diaz would beat the **** out of any version of Penn.
