Time to eat my crow. So I picked BJ. And.....I was wrong. Very wrong. GSP dominated BJ from the second round. Taking nothing away from GSP, he was too strong for BJ and wore him down, out struck him, took him down and pounded on him. Great performance. But looking at BJ, it's clear that he didn't train as hard as he should have. I think that he doesn't need to cut weight for 170 and so doesn't train as much. He really can't hack it at WW, and gasses which was made even worse by GSP bullying him constantly. He needs to stay at 155. Great fight from GSP. The better man won.
Everyone was talking **** about GSP not being mentally tough.. Now who wasn't mentally tough enough to finish the fight? Who couldn't dig deep enough when his natural talent didn't shine through?
BJ's mental weakness became apparent to me when he left camp and went on vacation. Before then I really didn't favor either of them.
I thought the fight was a farce to be honest, i've heard a lot of talk about Bj how "he's the best pound for pound" etc but tonight when i finally got a chance to see what all the hype is about he was garbage, just totally dominated, and though GSP done his job well i don't think he was that impressive either, he was against the smaller guy and yet he wasn't interested in striking with Bj, i guess being a Anderson Silva fan i've become accustomed to seeing absolute brilliance from the stand up position so this fight didn't really impress me, one thing is for sure if GSP steps in the octigon with Anderson he'll have to bring much more than takedown attemps, i think Silva would murder him to be honest but i guess that's another conversation altogether.
BJ didnt fight at all. He needs to go back down to 155 and see if he can fend of Florian. I wasnt impressed by GSPs performance either. He has become so predictable with his wins. Is it just me or hes turned into Matt Hughes 2.0. I think its only a matter of time before the next gen fighters catches up. Maybe Alves can bring something different to the game. I think Anderson Silva unknowingly ushered in a new style and aura. Machida may be heading towards that path as well, he is brilliant. Then I see guys like Jon Jones, the future. I dont know, the whole card sucked ass except for the brilliance Machida showed.
Its hard to say he quit when he never even got started. I think he owe's his fans an apology because he did'nt come to fight and give he fan's what they paid for.
Im not an MMa fighter, I would have thrown 20 punches in that first round. Only thing Im really disappointed with is not seeing a guy who knows he aint lasting more than one round save his punches for a fight in 2010. And GSP, Ill take you down, Ill punch you 100 times, Im not going to stop you. Gosh I hope he fight Anderson for real.. Now I kinda understand why Anderson talks about both fighters (BJ and GSP) as "not impressive" because they arent. Hes in a different level.
he talked about GSP and what a quitter he was ...well he quit in between rounds so I guess that's better....hahaha
This has nothing to do with BJ not training hard enough. He trained as hard as he can. He will NEVER be able to go 5 hard rounds with someone as huge and talented as Pierre without gassing out. BJ has to burn too much energy fighting off the strength of those big guys. He should never leave 155.
Nothing to sour grapes, GSP wasnt that impressive, he out positioned him, he hit a helpless guy with some elbows. But boy you see how Machida disposed of Thiago? The footwork, the movement, the timing and precision. Wow. He can bring it to a totally different level. You know I want to see Florian, I think hes another one whos taken it to a next level. Itll be interesting to see him against BJ
