World class BJJ and good wrestling OR world class wrestling and good bjj. Which would you prefer if you had to choose?

Something like BJ Penn or Rashad Evans.

BJ has great BJJ and good wrestling where as Evans has quality wrestling and uses his BJJ defensively.

    What do you think?

About the same really, provided the BJJ guy has really solid takedowns.

Id perfer to be a great wrestler and great jiujitsu player like a Hughes or GSP but if we are talking great wrestler/good BJJ and vice versa id probably take the better wrestling. Guys that are great wrestlers have such a great base its really hard to get things going vs them whether its trying to sweep or even regain guard its very difficult they have such great functional strength and the base is damn near perfect and of course they know exactly how to control space which IMO is one of Jiujitsus 3 most important things.

    BJJ/Wrestling for me.

A wrestler on his back is usually in a world of ****... a quality BJJ guy can fight from both the bottom & top positions.

Really it depends on the actual person doing the arts, some take to quicker & are better at certain things naturally.

It will be difficult to get that wrestler on his back though.

Bill and jimmie make good points.

Another question, how many guys out there are pure fusions of BJJ and wrestling. How many can mix it almost perfectly?

Couture, for example, is trying to mix wrestling and bjj quite well.

Arona and Filho spring to mind going BJJ to wrestling.

GSP for wrestling to BJJ. Hughes is up there as well, although as he gets better and better at BJJ he gets further from his physical peak. He has always been very good though.

Another guy that I believe deserves a mention with the Hughes/Arona/GSP type crowd is Urijah Faber. Urijah is a pretty damn good wrestler, experienced, fast shot, good doubles and singles, good takedown defense and his Jiujitsu is outstanding. Jeff Curran is no slouch on the ground and despite having Faber's back what 4-5 minutes Urijah allowed him no chance to choke him and eventually tapped him with a beautiful Guillotine choked and he RNC another Blackbelt Raphael Assuncao pretty damn easily IMO.
