All fighters go through this after a career defining fight loss. But boxing is still a business. He is 31 , has maybe 4 years left. GET THAT MONEY ! and live happily ever after.
Hopefully this acts as an example for others not to coast while waiting for the big payday. If he had challenged himself more over the last few years, he doesn't get demolished like that win or lose.
When Golovkin 'lost', he was older and still had the fire to want to continue and also get another fight with Canelo to settle scores. So seems BJS has lost the fire regardless.
I don't think BJS ever had "the fire" in the first place - his discipline has always been suspect in between fights, and his level of comp in the last 3-4 years not good enough to prepare him for stepping up to Canelo level.
Spot on. If he had that desire to carry on retirement wouldn't even be in the conversation. The fact he is even saying the word means he has already made the decision. He still has his mental faculties, is financially stable, has a young family, and can offer the next generation the benefit of his career. Retirement is the best option. That said, if silly money were put on the table I could see him having another fight or two. A rematch with Eubank jnr springs to mind. Though, Eubank is so deluded he will claim to be on the up and too big for the fight.
He was never going to beat the best anyway, that's how it was always going to go for him once he stepped up to the top, just not good enough, not active enough!

Don't really care. BJS would have looked continued looking mediocre and continued fighting bums even if he had lost to Clenelo without injury.
Saunders was awesome, as the Americans would say, in his bout with Saul Alvarez. He was clearly winning by a couple of rounds on the cards of anybody who's not indoctrinated in the Alvarez cult. Such a phenomenal talent and great guy. There's more to life than boxing for Saunders!
I'm not "indoctrinated in the Alvarez cult" and I don't think he was "awesome" at all. Are you sure you weren't watching a different fight and have gotten confused?
