Its obvious. Its why they become pro in the first place. I mean besides GGG who the fak is willing to fight for free in a sport where your head gets bashed in.

Depends on the belt and depends on the purse. Canelo is obviously going to take a belt over a 2m payday.

Great bargaining chips for sure. But established money fighters like Mayweather, De La Hoya, Canelo, Pacquiao, Gatti do not need belts to make money.

The difference is immaterial. Belts make money in this sport. It's the backbone of how fighters market themselves. The more belts you have the bigger audience, the more money you make. Lose the belt and watch your stock drop. Even popular fighters like Roy Jones Jr. aren't eating like they used to now that they no longer hold major belts.

Depends if the fighter is a household name

That's why whenever you see a picture of a champion fighter they have belts draped all over them like politicians wrap themselves in the flag. It's peacocking. It's how they signal that they are the best. A fighter without a belt is a peacock without any feathers is a peahen.

    Great point,peacocking I like it.
I wouldn't take much stock from what BJS says,I mean look at him now clinging on to that WBO belt for all its worth, heck even turned down fighting Rosado for fear of losing that belt before Canelo and GGG come a knocking, either that or he's become lazy?

Of course.. This is called prize fighting for a reason which is why GGG keeps hounding Canelo for a payday.

True but that speaks for only 0.1% of the boxers. Most boxers need belts to get recognition by beings champs and being put on the for publicity.

    Depends on the belt.
I don't know what local British belts are made of, but in an elite championship fight on the scale of May/Pac, the belt is pretty valuable.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman let For the Win get an exclusive look at the ridiculously heavy Championship belt.
It’s got 3,017 emeralds studded in the front, but the artisans who made it used more than 3,500 because they kept breaking them. It contains 800 grams of gold. The leather is the same stuff used in Ferraris. There are 165 flags on it, and they’re hand-painted.
    The value: $1M

Has Billy Bob even earned a $1M purse yet?

    Says
BS, they had to create their legacies by winning the belts in the first place. Mayweather in particular made a career of winning belts then giving them up so he wouldn't have to defend them, twas a game he played. You also don't appeal to the casuals w/o belts. It's the only way to get thru to a casual that anyone is good, they need a qualifier to prove that. It's like getting a freaking degree, shows you are at least this good.

Your statement would be pretty ****ing meaningless with a guy whose never had a belt. How you gonna become a PPV star w/o any belts lol?
