He was bang out of order doing that to Martin but it also can’t be denied that he didn’t do anything to deserve a title shot at that point either.
I just had another look at Saunders record, it's been a mess since beating Lee, his career high for me, beating a World Champion past his best. The next fight he arguably lost and, more importantly, the last three fights he's had of the six he's had since beating Lee, 5 years ago, have been an absolute joke against complete and utter nobodies, one at Cruiser. I know we've had Covid and everything but he's simply not active enough and when he does fight it's never a proper challenge, never ever a 50/50 and never against anyone in their prime.
In fairness, compared to most of Bill's CV, 2 years ago this would have been a good fight in comparison
Gonna watch a replay of this now but just watched the post fight interviews from him and Hearn, both justifying his performance so I can only assume it was underwhelming.
As it was designed to be. Dragging the ghost of Martin Murray out of semi retirement was for BJS to look spectacular. Murray was gun-shy and was just a plodding punch bag. Saunders looked good against him but hes in with very low level opposition Imagine Canelo in there with Murray tonight. KO inside of 3
Fight went the way I expected. BJS had far too much, but Martin was a shadow of himself and never even took any risks to try and win fight.
Saunders needs the right opponent to make his fights watchable. I'm glad Murray got a payday but that was terrible matchmaking from Matchroom. I actually fell asleep watching him last night,. He's a great talent but I really hope Hearn does not make the fights with either Andrade or Jacob's. The rematch with Eubank Jnr on the other hand would be a great match up and it would sell really well. For all BJS talent I actually prefer watching the likes of Dave Allen , Conor Benn and even Jake ****ing Paul.
Well, the decline was there for all to see. Lost a step, slower, taking shots he never used to take...and Murray wasn’t much better. At least we knew he was shot to bits beforehand.
He was slower no question. He doesn't seem wanting to try and make middleweight, so maybe this is as good as it gets from here on out?
He hasn’t got the pop at 168 and the extra weight does him no good. I think this is as good as it gets now. I think we’ve seen the best of him and his best years are gone.
Yeah that was in my head last night. He seems to have gone from exciting prospect straight to past prime remnant without any in between stage. Maybe he will prove everyone wrong should be ever have a top level opponent, but without the speed and movement there's not a lot left to build your hopes on. as he's being told by Saunders in the post fight interview to get him big fights Hearn must be wondering if he did the right thing signing him. The hassle to reward ratio is very high as Warren could've told him.
I agree unless he gets down to 160. Smith and Canelo both stop him at 168 imo. Definety slower, too fleshy at the weight and wont be able to keep Smith or Canelo off him.
