What's up fellas. First off, let's be clear that this thread is not any type of race war so leave that stuff out. I just was thinking about this the other day and wanted you guys' input.

It's clear to me that throughout history we've had some incredible talents from both the black community and latin communities.

I'm no boxing historian, but it seems to me that many of the great latino fighters were known for their relentlessness. Many of the great Black fighters had tremendous boxing ability (speed, agility, DEFENSE)

It also seems that for every great Latino fighter, they had an equally (probably more) great Black counterpart.

    Alexis Arguello had Pryor,
    Duran had Leonard/Hearns
Chavez had Taylor (even if taylor loss the last few seconds)
    Cotto has Floyd
DLH had Mosley' (this was very close, but you get the point)
Tito had (b-hop and winky who despite being naturally bigger would school tito at any weight)
Did Whitaker have a latino counterpart????

Again, i know these are just a few fighters, but i'm no historian.

My question is would you say historically speaking....are black fighters overall better, more complete fighters? Is it the DEFENSE that has seperated latino and black fighters? When I say defense, i'm talking about that James Toney, Sweat Pea, Floyd type of defense.

So what do you think? If each great latino fighters fought his black counterpart during their era in a 5 fight series, do you think the black or latino would win the series.

I'm puerto rican and am a huge Cotto fan, but while I do believe Cotto can beat Floyd, I can honestly say that in a 5 seven fight series, I think Floyd would win out. I actually think that with all the fighters I listed above, the black fighters would win a best out of 5 series.

Again guys, my boxing knowledge is limited. I'm only 27. Perhaps you guys can clear up any misconceptions I may have. Or maybe you can elaborate on the argument. You could also give some other interesting matchups between latino and black fighters that I've missed.

Hell if you think i'm completely wrong, let me know. Give me some much needed knowledge.

Both are great. I think alot of it has to do with our traditions. Latinos try to be "macho" which in boxing does not work well because it usually means ignoring basic defense. Blacks are physically very talented and dont have the "macho" in them as bad as latinos. I think thats the main difference.

I hate to say this but as far as fan support its absolutly one sided. The Latino fans LOVE their boxers, while I'll have a hard time finding another Black guy that loves boxing. I feel all alone.

The Spaniards Raped the Taino Indians almost exterminated their race, ****ed their Women..Then brought African slaves over who ****ed with Spaniards and Taino Indians.

Which was an exact Mirror image to the rest of the Wester hemisphere. The West Indies = A mix race, but they are what they are and Cotto is Rican.

As said before, some of the top Latino fighters have African bloodlines in them anyway.

Kid Gavilan and Ray Robinson is another example of a Latino fighter with a great African-American counterpart, and a Latino fighter with African bloodlines.
