When asked about his ring nickname, Roger stated:

"It’s funny because I wanted a boxing nick-name that wouldn’t be common to most people. One day when I was sniffing my rugby I start flipping through channels and I came upon this channel showing different reptiles, and they were showing the black mamba, one of the most deadly snakes in the world. I loved the way the mamba attacked so quietly, but when he hit you he just hit you one time and the poison was in you. That reminded me of myself right there."

Roger Mayweather aka The Black Mamba. Don't know where he got the name from but he had a lot of skills and could of been great if he was more discipline outside of the ring.

The other nick name he had was the "Mexican Assasin", after beating like 5 top Mexican fighters. I could be wrong but he defeated them at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood. Then J.C. Chavez came along and put and end to his onslaught.

When he was known as the "Mexican Assasin" he would come in sporting all black with a black Sombrero. He was bringing death to the Mexican boxers. It was great watching him in those days.

True.. That first round against Chavez he was boxing great, if only he'd had the head of Floyd Jr and held it together for more than a round :p. Also the Whitaker fight was very good, not too close on the scorecards but a competitive fight and even dropped him in the 9th but couldnt finish the job. Was a bit chinny though considering the early KO's vs Lockridge and Chavez
