I can't believe anyone would have wanted to spar him after what happened. Utter madness with all involved.
Disappointing to hear if true. I never trust the tabloids, but hope for the best regarding all physical, mental health involved and general common sense. Especially after the Gutkneckht well-wishes Nick made earlier in the week considering the dangerous position he is in... this seems beyond belief right now.
It's true I'm afraid, the BBBC have confirmed it with general secretary Robert Smith's quote in the story. That's not invented.
Fair play, have seen articles from reputable papers too since I posted. Damn, such a shame in general...
It's ridiculous. People must have been there watching, people who he would count on as friends I would guess. And what about the other guy in the ring? Why did he even agree to spar? Can't fathom this at all...
I once sparred a friend and he had a fit. He continued on fighting but I wouldn't ever spar with him after that. Nick prob persuaded them and hes been training with the pros at locketts gym probably thought he would be okay with head guard and 16oz gloves. Obviously not!
Utter, utter stupidity. It goes without saying that all boxers are braver than almost everyone else which is why sometimes they need protecting from themselves. Everyone involved in this should have their licences suspended.
It's takes years for the human cells to replace each other.. give it time like Frank Bruno.. who I believe should be allowed to box certain opponents.. not saying vs. a world beater.. but someone nearer his age or something..
Look I agree it is daft given what happened, but let's remember boxing is/was this guys life which has now been ripped away from him... I seen an interview on IFL the other day where he said he's absolutely cut up about not being able to fight again and is struggling to come to terms with it.
Just heard this, shocking really and a lesson to be learned. No doubt it has been playing on Nick's mind thinking he could still do it, let's hope he recovers.
