I dint think we have one completely, but here is what I've seen work. Pressure worked for a while, for Hatton and ODLH. Strong jab worked for ODLH. Leads to the body, power shot to the head worked for Shane. Countering worked for Mosley. Dictating the pace worked for Hatton and Shane. Lateral movement and punches from angles. Can't come straight in. What doesn't work: Middle of the ring exchanges. Leading with slow jab or hooks. Distance or fighting outside. Coming straight in. Stamina issues So, who us out there who has those strengths? Amazing conditioning, cuts off the ring, body/head combos with power, strong quick jab, ability to slip punches and bob/weave and adjust quickly?
Nothing worked for Mosley. He had about a minute portion of the fight where he was competitive and for the remaining 35 minutes was utterly outclassed.
Two minutes? Shane won the first two rounds, clearly. atsch My point is that as the competition level Floyd takes on increases, we see little bits of things that work for a time, at least until Floyd makes an adjustment and regains control. While nobody has been able to KO or school Floyd, there have been some things that work..sometimes the same thing works for more than one fighter. I'm wondering what everyone's opinion of those things are, and who, if anyone, is an active fighter with some or all of those abilities? God forbid anyone start an objective conversation on here that is about boxing that pulls some worthwhile feedback.
Lots of fighters go into the ring with a plan ...and it falls out the window once they get hit in the mouth.
Workrate is essential. Mayweather must stay on the defensive mode all night and fight for every second of every round. No one will ever outbox him unless he gets too old to sustain his speed and timing.
In my opinion, there is no currently active fighter right now from 147 on down who can defeat Mayweather. The only thing that last night showed, his that Floyd Mayweather is more of a warrior then people give him credit for, becasue he got tagged hard, and it pissed him off and led to him walking down Shane and dominating him.
I will say this... his rival got more holes in his game than him. Pac has to worry about what Floyd will do rather than the other way around. B/c no matter what he is going to eat and eat and eat right hands.
Jim, I gotta tell ya. There are two things that you have to do to beat Mayweather. One, you gotta land all your punches, and two, you gotta avoid getting hit. Sorry, couldn't help myself lol.
Everyone has weaknesses, but hes good at going up a gear and ad******g when in trouble. The flaws are there but who has the tools to do it.
I'm afraid a fighter hasn't been born yet that possesses all those strengths. Never in my life would I ever have felt the need to quote Floyd, but here it is: "There is no blue-print on how to beat Floyd Mayweather" I know guys I'm sorry. I'm sure you've heard that tedious quote more often than necessary, but it's the brutal truth. All those things you've listed at the beginning (what to do against Floyd), only worked for a brief moment in time. Absolutely all were nullified once Floyd made adjustments. Guys I think it's time to finally admit now, that unless Pacquiao pulls off a miracle when they meet, that Floyd is quite simply the best fighter of his era. No doubt
