If Pac were to beat FMJ, the catchweight thing (right or wrong) will be used as an excuse by the FMJ side... that would mean that Pacman`s greatest win of his entire life will have ????s hanging over it.... he has already proved he can handle - & look great - at 147, why not just have a WWT fight were the winner is crowned the best of the era ?

Ps. I understand that Roach & co are trying to get every advantage vs Mayweather because they know how good he is & they know immortality awaits Manny if he`s victorious but in a way Roach is helping tarnish Pac`s legacy with all these crazy demands.... I actually think Manny should step up himself & tell Roach, Arum & whoever else to sit down, STFU & listen to what he wants for a change.... Pac should challenge Floyd to a full WWT fight... end of.

**again I'd like to make a motion to remove Mayweather giving up his belt vs De La Hoya

as it was a one time thing, and Floyd hasn't fought above Welterweight since the DLH bout.

paulfv: if that's one of the best arguments you are going to use, you have to switch it up

because at this point Pacquiao is much more a Welterweight then Mayweather was a Super Welterweight

and the media might not matter, as they've gotten behind Pacquiao even with the catchweight

but if fight negotiations stall up, and it is because of the weight, the media should jump all over it

**I don't even get what has caused the weight to be such a big deal all of a sudden
Pacquiao fights at Welterweight and should use the PPV buys vs Cotto to ask for more money .. not to get the fight at 145.

agreed, adding in the catchweight potentially opens up a can of worms that I feel doesn't need to be opened

why is it DLH is the only one Manny can fight at Welterweight with no catchweight?

I find all of this catchweight talk kind of amusing. Floyd made it very clear against a minimal threat in Marquez that he didn't give a damn about respecting the contract. And there is no way Roach and Manny will be able to justify calling off the fight of the decade over two pounds.

This is all about money, and making Floyd lose some extra dollars for coming in at 147, which is exactly what he will do, and where the fight ought to be anyhow.

That sounds good. If not let Floyd come to 140lbs were Pac is the Ring champ

The question is not wether Pac needs or doesn't need a catchweight to beat Floyd. The question is why would Pacquiao give Floyd a weight advantage in their fight? It seems obvious to everyone that although Pacqiuao destroyed Cotto he can still make the 140 limit easily.

Even Shane Mosley said Pacquiao would be even better at 140 than at 147 So why would Pacquiao fight Mayweather on his terms? The catchweight is a fair middle ground.

there is something very unfair about this post. You say that Pacqiuao is getting every advantage vs Floyd for having the fight at 145. Thats bull****. 145 is a catchweight which means that its a middle ground. Pacquiao getting every advantage would be fighting at 140. At 145 Floyd is getting the advantage of making Pacquiao fight above his optimal weight. At 147 Floyd would have an even bigger advantage and Pacqiuao would have none.

You say the demands of a catchweight tarnish Pacquiao's legacy, but you make no mention of how beating Pacquiao above his best weight would tarnish Floyd's legacy.

    Why?

Its a middle ground because Pac is small for 147, but Floyd is too big for 140. So they meet at a catchweight which is somewhere in the middle. Thats what you call a middle ground

If Floyd wants to fight at 147 then fight a real welterweight. If he wants to fight for glory then fight Pacquiao at a fair weight.

yea instead why not Pacquiao fight Floyd at 147 and then he can fight Dawson at 175. Its easy to go up 3 weightclasses in 2 years.

But his last fight was at 145. Two fights before that, he fought at 147. How about Mayweather goes up and destroys Glen Johnson at 175, then destroys Pascal at 173 for his WBC LHW belt. Then after that, he can be ranked as the no. 1 LHW , only to have Dawson challenge him for his belt at a catchweight. And 175 is 4 divisions up from 147, not 3.
