    I'd agree that a 650K buyrate for Pac/Clottey is a good showing.
What makes it seem low is the many *******s would were on board here saying it surpass 1million......

......and another thing, you cant take PPV numbers from nearly 10 years or more back and compare them to today's.......

More homes now have the ability to order PPV, when back nearly a decade or more, there were less homes with cable and sattelite access.

.....the DLH-QuarteyPPV numbers for example in todays time would have easliy exceeded 1million buys.

Holyfield-Tyson for example would have blown the rooftop off of DLH-Mayweathers' PPV record of nearly 2.5 million.

We're living in different times with more TV PPV access, so you cant compare the PPV numbers of today from those from decades past.

    :good Very true,

but Trinidad vs Wright was not even 5 years ago barely and they barely did over 500k, and that was a wright coming off back to back wins over mosley on HBO, so he had more backing then clottey did in this fight.... and its possible that when the final numbers come out that pac blows that number out of the water against a lesser opponent.

De la hoya vs mayorga was merely 4 years ago, and if this ppv does 700k then it only falls short of hoyas fight against popular mayorga by 200k, not bad at all really given the opponent.

I agree Pac might be a bit behind in terms of pulling power so far, but hes closing in on hoyas numbers regardless of the year, imo. And he still has time to grow, and if the right fights come off (mosley, mayweather, ect) i expect his numbers to continue to shine.

key word is "non american". can barely speak english and not spending 20M to promote a fight for six months but still manage to do good numbers.

a non american drawing the 3rd biggest boxing live audience on american soil and people still in doubt. more like in denial.

If it really is 650k buys then Pacquiao is truly becoming a household name in America.

If you fight someone who can't draw flies to ****, no 24/7 promotion, very little if any commercial promotion, relatively small internet promotion, and still do well over a half million buys or in this case about 40 million dollars after the PPV sales and gate are added up then you truly have arrived.

Mayweather would not have done a million buys for Clottey. Marquez isn't a huge draw but he is clearly bigger than Clottey.

650,000 buys and 51,000 in attendance. Pacquiao is turning into gold.

Facts can Manny reach these numbers

    In May 2007, the super-welterweight

between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. on HBO PPV became the biggest-selling non-heavyweight title fight, with a little more than 2.5 million buyers.[

] The fight itself generated roughly $134.4 million dollars in domestic PPV revenue, making it the most lucrative prizefight of all time.[

] In December 2007 the Floyd Mayweather Jr. VS Ricky Hatton fight appeared on-track to sell well over 900,000 PPV buys,[

The leading PPV attraction, Oscar De La Hoya,[

HBO Sports President Ross Greenburg calls the expansion of pay-per-view "the biggest economic issue in boxing" and says:
"I can't tell you that pay-per-view helps the sport because it doesn't. It hurts the sport because it narrows our audience, but it's a fact of life. Every time we try to make an HBO World Championship Boxing fight, we're up against mythical pay-per-view numbers. HBO doesn't make a lot of money from pay-per-view. There's usually a cap on what we can make. But the promoters and fighters insist on pay-per-view because that's where their greatest profits lie."
"It's a big problem," Greenburg continues. "It's getting harder and harder to put fighters like Manny Pacquiao on HBO World Championship Boxing. If Floyd Mayweather beats Oscar, he might never fight on HBO World Championship Boxing again. But if HBO stopped doing pay-per-view, the promoters would simply do it on their own [like Bob Arum did with Cotto-Malignaggi in June 2006] or find someone else who will do it for them."[

    ]
Former HBO Sports President Seth Abraham concurs, saying, "I think, if Lou (DiBella) and I were still at HBO, we'd be in the same pickle as far as the exodus of fights to pay-per-view is concerned."

If you really didn't care like you claimed you didn't you wouldn't have me to "drop the bull****" lol.

I knew Marquez-Mayweather was going to be a mistmatch, and, like Pacquiao-Clottey, I saw the fight for free. I wouldn't pay for fights I and many boxing fans around the globe knew were going to be garbage... I just watch them for free.

a boxer is only as good as his last showing. stop with "common opponent" arguement, unless it all happens at the same time.

You are talking about a supposed promotion DeWalt Tools is putting on for their drills. You are ****ing ******ed if you think that is going to increase PPV sales for Mayweather Mosley, Dewalt Drills cost 250 bucks easy so why would someone spend 250 for a drill when they can just pay 50 bucks for the fight directly? Its like saying someone is going to buy a house because the people selling are throwing in a free tv.

All that is going to happen is that DeWalt will see a slight increase in sales by people who were planning on buying drills anyway and care to see Mayweather-Mosley in the first place. So no it isn't exactly free.

650K is a good number. I see many saying the numbers aren't better because both guys aren't American. Well why doesn't Pac fight an American then? The top guys at 140 and 147 are American. Despite this, it seems that Pac will be fighting a Venezuelen who fights at 135 in his next fight. Valero has had less exposure in the U.S than Clottey. I don't understand the business plan here with Pacquiao. He's built up a reputation for beating bigger guys. Why take on a slower, less talented, and smaller guy that has little name recognition in the States?
