I'm actually kind of curious to see how much time and money Top Rank spent to promote this fight. I also want to see the same for the numerous previous events (such as PBF-JMM, DLH-PBF, DLH-Pac, going at least as far back as Tyson-Holyfield I).

That's because Pac is doing just fine business wise whilst building up an ATG legacy based on tough fights, not what sells more.

I don't believe your marketing strategy or business model is a consideration for ATG-ness. Otherwise Sugar Ray and Joe Louis wouldn't be on that list.

Personally - I think a Valero VS Pac fight would be AWESOME!

Then why did he fight Josh Clottey, a guy coming off a loss and who has no notable wins? Why is he probably going to fight Valero next? Bradley and Alexander are the top guys at 140. Why fight one of the top guys at 135 who really hasn't beaten anyone? Why did Freddie Roach say that they aren't going to fight Bradley and Alexander because they aren't marketable enough?

    this-

Cerveza Tecate is primary sponsor of the upcoming professional pay-per-view boxing fight that will be Floyd Mayweather's first bout since coming off a year in retirement.

For its sponsorship of Floyd Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel Marquez on July 18 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Tecate will offer a $25 mail-in-rebate discount for the HBO Pay-Per-View event with the purchase of a 12-pack or larger of Tecate.

Tecate will also present an offer to save up to $30 in snacks and party supplies, with the purchase of $100 worth of groceries at participating stores. The beer brand will also co-promote the fight with TV and radio ads, as well as POS elements and posters with fight details.--Karl Greenberg

Whatever. I know you are getting emotional over this because of the caps I didn't mean to insult your hero.

With the facts that there was no 24/7, very little if any commercial promotion, very little internet promotion, and that Josh Clottey was the opponent then there is a "great chance" that PBF/Clottey would not do a million.

It may not be a good match up for the die-hards but for casuals, it's easy to sell and many will fall for it. I believe it will do good numbers, the next best thing besides Floyd. You got a guy who is undefeated also and all wins by knockout, no easy feat. So, why not?

pac may not make 135 anymore, but at 140 lbs, he would be lethal

I doubt many fans would buy into a Pac/Valero fight. Who cares if the guy knocks everyone out if they're all smaller than Pac? We've seen Pac take punches from strong WWs. Why would anyone believe a LW can hurt him? To suggest that a fight with Valero is the next best thing to fighting Mayweather is ridiculous IMO. There are 4 undefeated, elite, American fighters at 140 and 147. They would all be better options than Valero.

    650k is very good.

But Mayweather-Mosley is likely to easily double if not triple that amount which would scream Mayweather to demand more than 50/50.

Which if he dropped the blood test, would be doable.

I'd still rather him do 50/50 and get the fight made.

Josh Clottey - A top 5 WW at the weight when Shane still had a fight with Berto about to happen. Considering the turn around post the Mayweather fight, and that Pac fought Cotto last time - It's not like he's picked a soft touch at 147.

He went from 135 to fighting DLH - And stopping him in spite of 90% of the non-*******s saying it was career suicide, fought and destroyed the lineal 140 pounder at his preferred weight and then took ontwo of the hardest 147 lbs'ers available.

How could Bradley or Alexander be more credible when their KO ratio is less than 50% and their resume is less than stellar. I dont see them hurting Pac either but with Valero, casuals will say he's got a chance.

Clottey wasn't a soft touch, but he was certainly a handpicked opponent who was chosen because he couldn't beat Pacquiao.

Hoya and Hatton were past it, those were clearly money fights. However, Hatton was still technically the no.1 JWW,. The Cotto fight was a good fight as well. However, you claim Pac is interested in building his leagcy right now and not about lining his pockets. However, it seems like just the opposite is true. The guy fights at 140 and 147 and yet will probably be fighting a 135 lber. next. How is this building his legacy? This seems like another handpicked opponent.

Bradley has a better resume than Valero. Who the hell cares about Valero's KO percentage? His record is padded. How could you really ask how the two top JMW contenders are more credible opponents for the JMW champ than a LW paper champ? They are both better than Valero, and they match up better with Pac than Valero. Would anyone favor Valero over Bradley or Alexander?
