Contract was made but Arum added an extension close to Floyd, he declined and couldn't get the Margarito fight.

Plus margarito is a cheater anyway.

Similar to why Chavez vs GGG wasn't made and Gamboa vs Rios, etc. He almost prevented Bradley vs Marquez, but Bradley resigned

It didn't make sense in terms of risk/reward or in terms of maximizing the revenue (AKA "baking the cake") for all the parties. Honestly there is no time frame that makes sense for anyone who thinks this fight is one that absolutely should have happened.

Mayweather didn't fight at WW until the end of 2005. Margarito had just lost one year earlier in his JMW bid. Margarito fought Manuel Gomez and Clottey in 2006. Mayweather fought Judah and Baldomir in 2006. Judah was Floyds' last fight with Arum, remember. People always answer with "2007 or 2008" as to when Mayweather was supposed to fight Margarito when I ask. 2007 when Mayweather fought Oscar at JMW and set the PPV record? 2007 when Margarito lost to Paul Williams a month later? Yeah. As for 2008, Mayweather was retired and by the time he fought again, Margarito had already been busted with tampered glove wraps and Mayweather soon looked to face Margarito's conqueror.

i dno why people even clammer on about this matchup. he is a slow plodding fighter with a good chin and relentless punching

but hed never catch floyd... wev seen floyd pop shot an run for 12 rounds and thats exactly how the fight would have gone. if floyd got in trouble hed just tie him up inside

I agree its what people who dislike him do

some are even claiming khan could beat mayweather?! now im not saying Floyd is invincible but come on a top heavy weak chinned fighter who granted has hand speed but what good is it against a fighter who has incredible timing not even to mention the fact khan not less than 2 years ago went life and death with a blown up LW

Pac could cause problems because he has big fight experience a good level of talent, heart ect but even then you would likely bet on Floyd. All this he ducked Margarito makes no sense he was essentially a plodding punch bag exactly the kind of fighter everyones complaining about Floyd facing now at 38 years old a prime mayweather would have made him look foolish

EDIT - I actually think Margarito was one of pacs best wins for the reason styles make fights and pac had to beat him down to win Floyd would have picked him off at will but pac took punishment from a big mummy which is how margarito likes to fight toe to toe and he still won

Who cares, that name wouldn't even look good on Mayweather's resume.
I don't think FMJ loses any sleep not having Margo on his resume.

Floyd doesn't have the power to keep Margarito off him. Styles make fights.

Everybody that knows something about the sport knew that Mayweather would be in a life or death battle, win or lose.

Tony would walk right through those pull counter's rendering them completely ineffective, but even then, Tony is tall enough where they wouldn't be effective anyway.

Mayweather would have had uppercuts coming at him all night. He clearly ducked Margarito and what's pathetic is everyone here making excuses and saying things like, "I'm glad it didn't happen."

    Why?

Mayweather was in his prime. For real, if Mayweather can't fight a guy in his own weight class that could beat him while he's in his PRIME, then why doesn't he just retire?

Stop being fans of a boxer and start being fans of the sport. Mayweather ducked that fight. He told Margarito to his face he would fight him. Margarito beat the hell outta Cotto and the fight was going to be HUGE.

Mayweather declined and stayed on the sidelines out of fear, and lost over a hundred million dollars in potential revenue.

    That's called FEAR!!!

That's because you don't know about boxing and you're not a real fan of the sport.

That fight would have been so great, people would have called for a rematch.

That would have been a LIFE or DEATH match for Mayweather.

    LOL.

Pac did not stand toe to toe. Pac used lateral movement and counterpunching.

It's just that Margarito was so strong and durable, that even Pac, as strong as a puncher that he is, had to use everything in his ****nal to keep Margarito away.

    Margarito NEVER stopped coming.

Mayweather doesn't have near the same impact on his punches as does Pac, and Mayweather is not a combination puncher.

Furthermore, Mayweather hasn't shown the capacity to move around the ring like Pacquaio for years.

Honestly, Mayweather never had lateral movement and feet as quick as Pacquaio's.

Life or death? A face first plodder with very slow hands and minimal boxing ability against a supreme boxer with ATG defense. I would understand more if Margcheato had one punch KO power and the advantage in stamina. But he doesn't and Floyd stamina is equally as good. If styles make fights Floyd's style would eat Margacheato alive. It would be a sparring session IMO.

calm down I never claimed pac stood in the center of the ring exchanging blows for 12 rounds I simply was stating pac fought margarito in such a way he came off badly hurt (his own words) Floyd wouldn't engage like pac did.History proves Floyd can take a shot better than pac and if margarito couldn't put him away you expect him to have put Floyd away despite hitting him less times? did you really think this through..

Oscar De La Hoya is like what half an inch smaller than margarito with the same reach 73 now im not comparing them but the height advantage isn't something Floyd hasn't dealt with before and im sure Oscar is a slightly harder target to hit than Margarito so logic says if he can hit golden boy with a counter why not the mummy?

you talk like Floyd has no pop in his shots like he is some malignaggi? granted he isn't the strongest puncher but even shane mosley said he had decent power enough to make you take notice when your getting hit hard with accurate punches as you come in, come on man let the hate go stop making out margarito was some killer he was just a relentless punching punch like **** would he have beat a prime mayweather
