Bob Arum: Mayweather fight will have to be late May.

If it was 1918 no boxer would say they had to wait at least 6 months between fights. It's be more like 6 days. When it was a real hard man sport.

 

Thats the point of corporate sponsorship is that they do get something in return. Like i said the system doesn't have to change, you just a get a bigger market with a bigger venue therefore more money. This argument you have where the casino (or probably several casinos in tandem) won't make money don't hold water when working under the assumption that those fight fans will be staying at their rooms. This in addition to the multimillion dollar gate fees they'd get a cut off. If you fail to see how a casino can profit from sponsoring a 40,000 strong big fight (with all the options and promoting rights that come with it) than let's just agree to disagree.

 

what's with all the talk outside negotiations? why don't just arum and mayweather just sit down to fix everything up. so far, all it seems like is that both sides are just getting through to the other what they want through media. sit down and formalize everything instead of talking to the public coming out with all sorts of ****. it's january and at this point i would've expected both to talk seriously now after the holidays and after pac has had time with his family.

 

As I posted on another thread the date matters. Floyd was allowed to remain free for the fight, however there is a grace period between the fight and when he has to report back. Lik kely to allow for medical attention so not to pass the costs along to the state or city. Truth is there is no Reason for the fight not to happen on may 5 other then ducking. No matter how hard you cat try to justify it. Its shameless and cowardly. I would have more respect if they just said they didn't want the fight.

 

They did that once and arum walked away and said he didn't care if the fight never got made.

Truth is it really doesn't matter, that is if both sides really wanted the fight. However I think we can say that arum is not all that interested. So much so the he said absolutly not when asked if mayweather could be pac's next fight.

 

If you're saying that Pac has no real reason not to fight in May 5th then hey I agree with you, but that's a different argument. But I dunno what's in Pac's head. This whole thread was started on the premise of Arum saying that he's amenable to a Floyd fight in late May...using a temp stadium as his reasoning. If that's true then why not compromise? In regards to this so called grace period, I 've already explained the concept of due process and how a judge would be flexible to extenuating circumstances.

 

And I explained that arum said pac was fighting in june not late may. At which point floyd will most likely be in jail. Bottomline is floyd has no flexiblity he is at the mercy of the court. All we no is that he is open until june 1. What purpose is there really for pushing right to the edge other then them not wanting the fight. At the end of the day arun said absolutly not to floyd being pacs next fight. So its pointless to really debate it.

 

building a temp stadium costs money...building a temp stadium for one fight is ******ed, not to mention the MGM is already booked, and it's on the strip...not at some off the strip **** ass location

But, I think the point thawk888 is making is that May 5 is a hard date with an acceptable venue reserved already, on what is, arguably, one of the biggest fight days of the year. But, Arum in response to that offer has, essentially, counteroffered with a tentative date sometime in late May, based on his desire to explore the possibility of building a temporary stadium. Nothing Arum says indicates there is any urgency on his part to make this fight right now (if ever). And nothing he's said is definitive.

There is a limited window of time to try to make this fight before Floyd is indisposed, and all Arum can think about is exploring possibilities, whether minor cuts have healed (not an issue when JMM was brought up for May 5), and just being a contrarian in general. I'm not so certain the judge would've granted a postponement based on Arum's perspective. The fact that there is a specific date and venue reserved is a better justification.

Dec 2011-Floyd gets a 90 day senetnce-he is scheduled to start on Jan 6 2012-Team Pac seems relieved by this.

Jan 2012-Arum claims they would fight JMM on May 5th but thats it.

Jan 2012-Floyd is given a suspension based on the fight he planned for May 5

Read the thread title. Why is it pointless to talk about it? This thread isn't about whether YOU think Bob wants the fight or not, but rather, it's about the hypothetical that he does in late May. What your not understanding is in the same breath that Bob Arum said a Pac vs Floyd fight would have to be late may he also said that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is absolutely not an option for Manny's next fight, So to sum it up the moral is why are you still trying to defend Arum after he's been pulling the same **** for the last 2+ years.....On a SN I still believe that both pac and floyd want this fight but like most people see Arum wants to keep the money for himself
