Because some chess moves work, and some don't.

In this case, Arum could have been right or he could have been wrong. He turned out to be wrong.

I said in another thread the other day that the floating of the Guerrero fight could have been a "trial balloon." Put it out there and see how people react to it.

    Well, they didn't react well.

So, the plan may have been Guerrero. But if that was the case, then it's on to Plan B for Team Mayweather.

This stuff isn't always as simple as it looks. Sometimes it is, often it is not.

More likely Guerrero was never a serious consideration a la Spadafora and was only put out there to add desirability to whichever non-Pacquiao opponent is in fact next.

    Seems the case.

A good, basic tactic. Like the Pac "call out" misdirection play.

So, seems Cotto or Alvarez. My guess is Cotto.

    Wow.

So after 2 years of watching Bob Arum 'play chess', here's where we are today:

    - The much mailgned blood testing will be, by all accounts, part of any fight between the two
    - Pacquiao, if we are to believe his latest '50/50 or no fight' statement, is STILL getting short money at the negotiation table, in spite of all his worldwide popularity, PPV sales, and fame
    - The boxing media (Iole, Rafael, etc.) are now openly stating that Pac/Arum appear to be ducking the fight.

All this in a 'chess match' with a guy who is one of the most polarizing athletes in sports (Mayweather), known for constantly sticking his foot in his own mouth, has absolute TERRIBLE (or no) PR people assisting him, AND who was recently convicted and going is to jail.

And yet, in paulfv's world, Arum gets continually sucked off for his 'brilliant tactics' and 'gambits'. Dude is hustling backwards for his client and getting killed where it counts, the negotiation table where he has not won ONE concession for his client since the first round of negotiations.

And yet these Pac fans getting all starry eyed believing he is in the midst of some Machiavellian masterstroke.

This is sad. Sad, sad, sad. And really fugging dumb. :verysad

Unfortunately for the detractors, he is.

Team Floyd is still playing catch-up in the Machiavelli department.

    They're getting closer, though.

Sadly, the clock is not in their favor.

Good point. Everything that was a problem in the past according to Arum, is now no longer an issue. Since this is the case it makes it clear all along he doesn't/don't want this fight to be made.

No, but it's a good try. Nobody who was paying attention after Pac-Cotto will ever fall for that nonsense.

You can't fool all the people all the time. No matter how many alts you have or how many smoke and mirrors you use. Believe me, it would seem Fight Hype has tried everything.

Another reach around for for Arum, I see.
