Why is Kelly Pavlik not exercising the rematch clause with Martinez?

    BA

: " He can't make the weight anymore. He had to eat mussels to get down there. Kelly is a 170 pounder, so he can make 168. But he shouldn't fight lower than that."

: At 168 the fight HBO would want is Lucian Bute.

BA: "Correct, and that's the fight we're looking at and I think it's already in discussion. I don't know if there's a target date yet.

Props to Pavlik for taking this fight if he does it. After coming off such an whooping, this is an incredibly brave and ballsy fight for him to take. Bute, unlike Martinez has the power to blow Pavlik away, but at least he won't be fighting someone so quick and actually has a chance of landing shots this time around.

Damn, I figured the guy would at least get a tune up at 168 before fighting one of the top guys. I don't think that he has much of a chance here.

Don't believe everything Arum says, but if it's true, Pavlik MUST have a tune-up before September.

the last thing i believe is eveything arum says...but ****, it may actually add up this time. the S6 are busy...and its not like there is another potentially big fight for kelly that arum can use a bute fight to gain leverage with.

i'm very worried arum will do it.

That's like putting all your chips in.. For Pavlik that would be all or nothing, cause if he could somehow upset Bute, he'd more or less become "The Great Hype" once again...

    yeah but....

    1. just coming off a couple bad years health wise.

    2. just got your belts ripped from you in pretty sound fashion.

    3. just said you were gonna take the whole summer off.

    4. 1-1 against good comp over 160 thus far.

    5. last time we went there it wasnt pretty.

****ing **** arum. put him on the god damn undercard of a bute fight if you have to against andrade. that would be a good way to hype a bute fight. put him on a bute undercard against a guy who gave bute fits in their first fight. but good lord, you can't move up and fight bute after a long layoff.
