You are all fools! great way to start off the post. For the people who really know boxing, we understand that Kelly has not improved as a fighter and he needs a new trainer. Kelly needs to give himself a new lease on his boxing life. Kelly's corner is as stale as those" double the ****ing jab" jokes.

It is apparent that you are close to Kelly's current camp and can't handle the criticism. Maybe after Kelly gets smashed to a bloody pulp a couple more times, your love for him will make realize he is not giving himself the best opportunity to win. And if nothing else you should want Pavlik to win...Pavlik Fan.

Dedication can help, but it was clear for some time that Pavlik was cutting to make 160. Unlike Williams, Pavlik isn't naturally skinny. 168 should do him well. Fighting Bute... not so well, but I don't think it would be a destruction.

Martinez is a much faster than Bute. And Hopkins is a better tehnician than Bute. Bute would probably win, but given Pavlik has some tune up fights, it wouldn't be a beat down.

Well they did...to a certain extent.

Martinez dumped red painted leather gloves on his face.

When Pavlik started his pro career he was routinely referred to as a "super middleweight prospect." From February 2003 thru August 2005 he fought 11 times. Only one of those fights took place at 160. The two fights just prior to Zuniga were SMW fights. Then he had the opportunity to fight Zuniga at 160 for the vacant NABF title. Since the NABF title is a traditional stepping stone toward a WBC title shot, taking that fight was the right thing to do.

Once KP had that title he had to defend it. He wanted a fight with Winky, but Winky got a shot at Taylor, so Pavlik fought McKart. Bronco is stylistically similar to Winky, and fought Winky 3 times. Again, it was the right thing to do. This was July 2006, four freaking years ago, and in the post fight interview KP made it clear he was having trouble making 160, and that if he didn't get a fight with Jemain pretty quick, he would move back up to 168.

Four months later Pavlik fought a catch weight fight in prepration for a permanet move to 168. (The contracted weight was 164, but both fighters came in under that.)

Right after that he was offered an eliminator with Zertuche at 160. He was suppose to beat Zertuche, and get his title shot.

HBO and boxing politics got in the way, and he had to fight a second eliminator against Miranda.

By the time KP actually got his title shot, 14 months and 3 fights had passed since he made the weight issues public.

In 2008 Pavlik fought 3 times. Only one of those fights took place at 160. KP fought 3 times since then, and struggled to make weight everytime.

This idea that there is some relationship between lifestyle issues, and Pavlik's stuggles to stay under the middleweight limit is ludicrous. It amounts to nothing more than a bunch of rumour mongers reguritating gossip that was thoroughly refuted long ago.

From the fall of 2005 thru the spring of 2008 Kelly Pavlik was a freaking beast who could lose rounds, get out boxed, get out smarted, get beat up, get knocked down, and come roaring back to beat seven shades of **** out of his opponent. I saw a lot of things in his last fight that lead me to believe we may never see that beast again. However, there is absolutely no relationship between his weight struggles and any so called lifestyle issues. To say that there is requires an absurd amount of revisionist history.

You're right on the history of Pavlik weight problems and the gossips. I was not really talking about that but about the evolution of his boxing skills. I don't know why (coaching, not enough dedication, injuries, etc.) but Pavlik stopped improving and even went back.

Pavlik has regressed. In the Martinez fight he failed to capitalize on opportunities to land solid right hands 12 times in the first 3 rounds alone. Pre-fight he stated several times that head hunting against Martinez would be a very bad idea, but then he spent the majority of the fight head hunting. He did not listen to hardly anything his corner told him, and just did his own thing even though his own thing clearly wasn't working.

In my opinion KP is either an old 28, past his best, and can no longer bring his "A" game, or, the weight issues completely screwed him up both mentally and physically. I don't think there is a 3rd option.

well...another one of my favorite fighters go beat 4 times by two fighters who just had his number, almost getting stopped in one of those fights. in a six fight stretch shane mosely went 1-4 w/ 1 nc and many people thought oscar won the second fight. he came back, became relavant, and became champ again.

kelly and shane couldnt be more different but kelly can do it. he's gonna need to bust his ass to do it, but he can do it. a few of the top smw's will always hold a stylistic advantage over him but he can beat a lot of the top guys if he can regain his form.
