Shane is a good example of the fact that fighters can and sometimes do come back after they are supposedly shot. The guy in my avatar took a beating from Bobby Chacon, and had a terrible time trying to get himself back together. He ended up ruling 126 for 4 years during a very strong era, and will be inducted into the IBHOF next month. I haven't written Pavlik off, but I need to see him do something significant before I get back to believing.

TFFP once asked why videos of Kelly working the bag showed him with better hand speed than he has been displaying in fights. I don't know the age of the videos or the time frame, etc.... Little doubt in my mind, from what I know, that weight drain played a fairly substantial roll in the Martinez fight.

But, this is all past now. It may take a couple more fights at the new weight before we really know the answers to some questions.

You should proud friend, at least he's taking on a monster of an opponent and trying desperately to make a mark again even if he looks like he's going to lose and brutally.

yeah i hear ya. when i posted that i had just read where he wanted to take the summer (i.e. another 7-8 month break) off. 17 rounds in 18 months, five of which being w/ espino, then to jump right in w/ bute....

this is why i'm conflicted about him jumping right in w/ bute. part of me wants him to get some quality rounds in at smw just to adjust. then, part of me agrees w/ herm that, at this stage of his career, he doesnt need a tune up and should test himself against the best.

I think a tune-up would be best given the amount of inactivity in recent years and a recent fight where he got cut badly.

However, I think when you become a money maker it becomes harder to take tuneup fights especially if over the past couple of years you fought Espino, Rubio, and Lockett (I know, they were mandatories). For instance, I'm a fan of Miguel Cotto, after he got destroyed by Margarito he needed to take a tune-up fight so he got Jennings and dispatched him. Then he took a few steps up to fight a guy a shade below the elite level(Clottey) and he struggled BADLY with Clottey. Even if they weren't battling for a fight with Pacquiao, I don't know how boxing fans would have taken to Cotto taking on another tune-up after Clottey. Now, Cotto is taking on Foreman after getting destroyed by Pacquiao, I would rather have him in a much easier tune-up fight after the beating he took...

Of course, the downside to a tune-up fight would be if he lost the tune-up fight, which happens occasionally. Moreover, I thought his loss to Martinez would put an end to a Bute/Pavlik match that HBO was obviously hoping...but it didn't. So maybe it is best to plunge right into to a fight with Bute rather than risking anything.

well, cotto's fight w/ jennings served two purposes. it gave cotto some quality rounds to get some confidence but it was also for a vacant strap so there was the selling angle. pav could jump in and fight stieglitz for his strap and then have a uni fight w/ bute. that would allow to get some quality rounds at smw and still have the selling angle that it is for a title. that would make a bute fight even more money for both sides if it is a unification bout.

I think a fight with Bute would be bigger, far more interesting, and make more money if KP was coming off a couple decent wins. I also think a couple semi-good wins would boost Pav's confidence and improve his chances.

For example, no one has ever stopped Bika. Pavlik at his best would be capable of beating the brakes off Bika.

Anthony Hanshaw beat Kelly in the amatuers. Avenging that loss would also be good for KP, and even though Hanshaw lost to Jones and Dirrell, I think he is still a viable tune-up.

I am not a grammer expert, that is a fact. But you really need to form your sentences better. It would make your post more meaningful.

I was responding to your post and you in general. Whenever someone mentions Pavlik getting a new trainer you go ape ****. When the Pavlik die hards(no names needed) suggested he get a new trainer you were so hurt. "Now we know who the real fans are":| Yeah we do...real Pavlik fans...not Loew fans.

REAL Pavlik fans spend thier money to go see Pavlik but further more spend hours on this board defending thier guy, Paragraph after paragraph. They spend hours re-watching fights trying to pick up on thier fighters subtle boxing habits. And they have a right to form an opinion about what trainer would be a good fit for their favorite fighter.

but not on Eastside with you, the "Insider" who lamblast them with the "real fan" BS. Irony is that they are the real fans...real boxing fans. You are just a fan of one person. You could never come to my level b/c mine is that of a knowledgable boxing poster. For all your insider information you have on Pavlik, you have never displayed any real boxing insight.
So, guess who is the idiot?
