The problem the way I see is that Pavlik doesn't want to blow away some dude for a few hundred bucks and will rather sit out and wait for a quality offer. I don't think any available 168-er can offer as much money as a Bute fight, and that's a terrible SMW debut for Kelly. He should can his summer vacation a get a proper tune-up for a few bucks to have a better chance at winning vs. the likes of Bute. Will he do that, I doubt unfortunately.

You knew the match up was still coming but this is quicker than imagined. I figured Pavlik might want an easy fight at 168 before jumping in with someone like Bute, but Pavlik has fought at this weight before. Seems like Pavlik is making a stand as a top fighter with this match up. If he wins he's back to where he was a few years ago but if he loses his stock will be at its all time low.

Bute should be the favorite here but Pavlik matches up better with Bute than he did Martinez. Pavlik's biggest problem against Martinez and even Hopkins was that he couldn't deal with their movement. Bute will give Pavlik problems in that department but not to the degree Martinez and Hopkins did. I think Bute wins this fight but I wouldn't favor him to the degree most are. Pavlik has a shot in this fight, its a bold move but I sort of like it.

Despite being as slow as a week in the jail, Pavlik could land something on Bute. Bute has a borderline Glass Jaw, as was displayed in the first Andrade debacle.

There is a good possibility Kelly will be on ESPN 1240 tomorrow from 6p - 7p est.

Jesus. Pavlik would get smoked; it won't even be a fight.

Aside from the Showtime guys, this is really the only available fight for Bute that would be big since KP is well known and popular. Maybe KP is happy for one final big payday, other than that, I can't imagine why they would be interested in this fight right now.

You're right. I said on another thread that they should get him in with a couple cans at 168, let him stay in shape, not get rusty, like they did with Sam Peter. Which I think worked out well for him. He slummed it for a few fights, stayed in shape, got sharp then got fed that eliminator and now he's back in contention and healthy.

yeah i agree bute is the biggest money fight kelly can get. i'd just like to see him get some quality rounds in at smw before stepping in there w/ bute.

there is an old saying about not throwing good money at bad money. bute is a good money fight. but bute aint going anywhere w/ the S6 tied up. kelly has time for some good build up/ tune up type fights. bute doesnt have to be kelly's first fight as a committed smw. its irrational.

Be very surprised if he went straight into a Bute fight. He could certainly do with a fight to adjust to the weight or to just build some confidence back up.

Even from a promotional point if view it doesn't make any sense

Bad idea. Bute is starting to get a little bit hyped up on here and Pavlik could at least make it competitive if he prepares properly, takes a tune-up and comes in in good mental condition. Rush in and he's throwing his career away.

don't get it twisted there is no way KP steps in the ring with Bute right off the bat. 100k says arum build him up with a tune up of a jeff lacy or Manfredo then feeds Stieglitz to him to see if he can swimif he gets that done after a title defence him and Bute lock Horns. all this would time up well with the Super 6 Final and both fights would come off at the same time

Keep us posted on that. It was in one of your interviews that Jack said something like "You train just as hard for every fight" so they were looking at taking less fights but higher quality match ups when Kelly came off of his injury.

Pavlik is clearly ending up like Taylor. I mean think about it Taylor biggest win is beating Hopkins twice in a row and after that? He hasn't won another big fight. Pavlik after beating Taylor twice in a row in which is and still is his biggest win. <<So after that Pavlik hasn't won another big fight. Now Pavlik career is going down the hill just like Taylor is. I won't be surprise if Bute ko Pavlik badly.
