I would pick Langford personally. One person who disagreed with me, was Sandy Ferguson, who shared a ruing with both.
I rate them quite closely. pound for pound I have Langford at number 2 and Fitzsimmons at number 6. This is how I rate them elsewhere: At Middle: 6. Fitz 7. Langford At Super Middle: 1. Fitz 3. Langford At Light Heavy: 2. Langford 3. Fitz At Cruiser: 1. Langford 8. Fitz At Heavy: 18. Langford 25. Fitz So, I would probably be picking Fitzsimmons up to 168lb, and Langford at weights north of that.
These are both super elites in the history of the sport. So hard to tell. If a gun put to my head I would pick Fitz and cross my fingers.
Langford by knockout because he could take a better punch, but fitz has a live shot. Both had scary power
Tough because both had rock em.shock em power. I'll say Bob in a vicious bout, with both men down before the end .
I don't know .. Fitz has become under rated as some sort of cartoon character but in his day he was viewed as the best pound for pound fighter anyone had ever seen.
What Suzie said, if there was ever a 50-50 fight between two ATG's this is one, legacy and ability whys they're pretty much inseparable.
Both are ring legends with amazing careers. The main difference is one had the opportunity in title fights, the other did not. I'd rate Fitzsimmons slightly higher in a pound for pound sense / accomplishments sense. Not sure who would win had they meet at their best. Langford wasn't great on defense. Yet Sam in his prime was very difficult to stop. He could be floored, but he recuperated well and had the stamina to fight hard for 20+ rounds. Could Langford take Fitzsimons punch? If yes, then I pick him to win head to head, if no I'll take Fitzsimmons.
