There is a macabre tale that supposedly when his widow Temo got low on funds in later life, she wanted Bobs body exhumed as he had nine diamonds in his teeth which she wanted retrieved and sold, the Chicago authorities refused her request.

I don’t know why but the idea of Fitz and Johnson’s ghosts sparring in the fog came to mind and it seems like a wicked painting I wish I could do.

Yes 1862 was indeed the incorrect year of his birth, another fact about the stone was, that the stone for 56 years after Bobs death, had his surname misspelt as 'FITZIMMONS'.

This error was rectified by the Illinois Veteran Boxers Association, by placing a new stone appropriately of ruby red granite, with surname corrected on the grave, albeit with the year of birth not corrected.

Illinois Veteran Boxers Association respecting a great champion, good on them, they corrected what sadly Bobs family did not.
