Fitzsimmons, between 1891-1897, went 32-1-2 with 31 KOs, the loss was a questionable DQ. In this period of time he won the Middleweight title from Nonpariel Jack Dempsey, and the Heavyweight title from James J Corbett. He averaged 6 fights a year. He also beat Peter Maher x2, and was one of the very few people in boxing history to have defeated a man nearly double his weight (Fitz 160lbs vs Millard Zender 300lbs), during this run. http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/Bob_Fitzsimmons_vs._Joe_Choynski ^Fitzsimmons' draw with Choynski (another good name) was due to police intervention halfway into the fight. Choynski was clearly losing "helpless against the ropes" before the police intervention. http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/Bob_Fitzsimmons_vs._Tom_Sharkey_(1st_meeting) ^Fitz's DQ with Tom Sharkey (ANOTHER good name) was highly questioned, many thought Fitz had been robbed of victory due to a poor call for a battered Sharkey. https://news.google.com/newspapers?...AAIBAJ&sjid=wfMDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6887,492247&hl=en ^States that Fitz was actually even outweighed by Nonpariel, but despite that, it was an extremely dominant performance by Fitzsimmons It's possible that Ruby Robert could've gone 34-0-1 with 33 KOs during this period. Why isn't this talked about more often? It's one of the most dominant runs I've ever seen
I think he was certainly bigger than Dempsey, which is why he made it 154Ibs in fighting clothes to drain Fitz, since he fought MCarthy at 158Ibs. he weighed himeself at 155Ibs in the morning and had to do a workout to make weight, I'm guessing his scale may have been off given the weight he ended up at.
