Both had seen better days at this weight but Bob was good enough to bag the world title ,whilst Barkley managed to out score the Hit man .So in this battle of veterans ,who takes it ?

Cheers Birmingham, good to hear from u as usual. To be honest mate, there s people on here like McVey and Rez that are a lot more clued up about the old timers than I could ever hope to be .I like the thought of old school v modern in the lower weight s .In a way there a lot more balanced than the heavy s ,seeing how bigger they've got over the years .And not sure myself how this match up would pan out !

If, by lightheavyweight, you are talking of the Bob Fitzsimmons who actually won the title, then i cant see him winning, or at least it would be a very close fight. But if you mean the light heavy (or middleweight) version of Bob who actually fought at the weight against bigger fighters and other light heavys in a division that was named the heavyweight division, then i think Bob Fitzsimmons is a strong favourite to score the KO.

Fitz when he fought Gardner? He did have two injured hands, was reported to be ill, and supposedly collapsed with pneumonia the next day IIRC.

Well that's a lovely little bit of info that I wasn't aware of! Good job bud. Fitz at his best would decapitate Barkley eventually. One of the most precise and accurate power puncher's the sport has seen.

When I read the title, I don't know why Bob Satterfield came to mind ( I would have picked him to win btw) but I don't know with this one

    I'm inclined towards Bob.
Barkley wasn't that hard to hit, which isn't good news against Fitzsimmons.
