Taking into account where their opponents were in their respective careers when both men beat them who has the better winning resume?

Jeffries beat:
Corbett 33 years old hadn't fought in a year and a half. W. 23rds ko
Corbett 36 years old had been retired for 3 years.W10rds ko
Ruhlin had been half killed by Fitzsimmons earlier.W retired between the 5th and 6th rds
Sharkey W 20rds
Sharkey W 25rds
Fitzsimmons 37 years old inactive for 2 years W 11rds ko
Fitzsimmons 39 years old inactive for 2 years.

Fitzsimmons beat:
Corbett ,reigning champion ,in his prime at 30 years old W14rds ko
Sharkey W 8rds ko , robbed of the win by crooked refereeing.
Sharkey W 2rds ko
Ruhlin W ko6 rds
Maher prime at 30 years old W 1rd ko
O Brien W dec
Choynski prime at 25 years old W ko

Whose wins are more meritorious?
I say Fitz's.

Fitz was 36 when Jeffries first beat him. We have been over this...how do you know he was inactive? Didn't Fitz go on tour like Sullivan did?

Fitz prime lasted until 1904 with him bettering O'Brien ( 1904 ), and a decent enough George Gardner in 1903.

Fitz's last fight with Jeffries was 1902.

Jeffries two wins over Fitz are better than anyone Fitz beat save perhaps Corbett, whom Jeffries beat twice. Sharkey was beaten so bad by Jeffries in 1899 he was never the same. You omit that likely unpurpose. Jeffries also beat Ruhlin sooner. You omit that.

It's not a hard logical conclusion here but when you mix in hate it clouds the mind.

He was inactive in that he did not have any professional boxing matches during that time. ,hope that explains it for you. Fitzsimmons kod Sharkey with one punch in8rds before Sharkey ever set eyes on Jeffries.
He later repeated the trick in 2rds, intwo tries over 45 rds Jeffries could not stop Sharkey and both fights were close.
Fitzsimmons half killed Ruhlin ,the accounts of the fight make gruesome reading , again this was BEFORE Jeffries beat Ruhlin by corner retirement.
Fitzsimmons beat a prime, 30 years old reigning champion in Corbett with a one punch ko in14rds, that easily tops Jeffries two results against Corbett.
Fitzsimmons ko'd a 25 years old Choynski whom Jeffries drew with over 20rounds, some stating Choynski deserved a draw.
Fitzsimmons ko'd a 30 years old Maher in one round.
You believe what you want, I don't put up threads for morons,I'll let normal, unbiased people make their own minds up on the evidence presented.

UNPURPOSE? Mendoza speak ,I spuspoze.lol

Do you think Fitzsimmons had a win better than Jeffries KO over Fitz in 1899 or 1902? If so who?! Corbett's own people said his first fight with Jeffries ( age 33 ) was his best ring effort just in case you want to go there.

Prove to me Fitz wasn't in the ring and as inactive as you claim. I suggest he was active at times in the ring, perhaps in local fights.

Maher had a glass jaw. Nice result, but predictable.

You'll make more mistakes. I'll be here to point them out as usual :)
This is a new form captain spell check and " intwo " as you typed is two separate words!

PS: Sometimes you don't present evidence. You present inaccurate ages, dates, quote out of context, and by omission of key facts, skew the results :)

The onus is on you to prove that Fitzsimmons was active not for me to prove other wise,I have Odd's biography Pollack's account and box rec to back me up, what do you have?
And do you know ,I do it UNPURPOSE lol!

Overall we would have to give it to Jeffries.

He was a more dominant and successful champion, and it is hard to gloss over the fact that he prevailed in both their encounters.

Having said that, I think that Bob Fitzsimmons heavyweight resume frequently gets sold short.

You could make a strong case for him being a top 20 all-time heavyweight, even to this day!

Can you show why? Fitz at 36 was coming out of a 2 years hiatus ,he said himself that he was in better shape for their re-match even though he was nearly 40 years old. For my part Fitz beat better versions of Corbett,Ruhlin and Sharkey there is simply no escaping that fact.. So I don't see the logic,or rationale in picking Jeffries over him based on signature wins?Which is what I am looking for here, not title reign dominance .

Wrong, Fitz was 36. Someone, please help this guy.... His brain is defective!

The Sharkey that fought Jeffries was at his peak. He was 25 and in his best shape. Fitz officially lost to Sharkey when he was 23. The foul is debatable.

Corbett's own people said his first fight with Jeffries was his best ring effort. Who are you to say otherwise?! Geez.

Like I said I hope those in the learning mode steer clear of your posts. You're a real piece of work.

To be fair Fitzsimmons does have better wins vs the same key opponents, with the exception of Jeffries finest opponent, which is of course Fitzsimmons himself.

That is where Jeffries wins the argument!

While I agree with you that Jeffries beat better, he beat Ruhlin sooner than Fitz did. The Sharkey that Fitz beat was a ruined fighter.

But you hit the nail on the head. Beating Fitzsimmons twice seals it. Fitz was deadly from 1899-1904.

Is everybody ignoring that Jeffries beat all of these guys with very little experience. He fought Fitz in only his 14th fight overall. That's impressive as hell.

This is nonsense and what's more inaccurate.Fitzsimmons kod Sharkey in8 rounds only to be robbed of the win by the referee, this was before Sharkey fought Jeffries. Fitzsimmons ko'd Ruhlin in 6 rds and beat him so badly he was in a coma that night with Doctors attending him.Ruhlin fought Jeffries after this and his corner retired him before the 6th round began.

Jeffries beat a 36 years old Fitzsimmons who had not fought in2 years and who took him lightly.
Jeffries had his face smashed to pulp in the return by a near 40 years old Fitz , who smashed his hands on Jeffries hard head.
Fitzsimmons who was plagued with hand trouble, broke his right hand in the second Jeffries fight and Jeffries said he knew about it because he heard the crack as it broke ,and that Fitz could not hit as hard with it for the rest of the fight. After this 1902 fight Fitz had six fights going into 1904 4 were with also rans and the others ,with O Brien and Gardner were points wins because his hands were f*cked.

You're not a rational human being are you?

Nothing debatable about it at all!!

"Bob Fitzsimmons was Wednesday night robbed of a victory which he had clearly earned by punching Tom Sharkey into insensibility. No one in the audience saw the foul complained of, but all saw Sharkey strike the Australian in clinches and wrestle him all over the ring a score of times. The call of time saved the sailor at the end of four rounds and the referee finally saved him in the 8th after Fitzsimmons had laid him low with a couple of left hooks, both of which struck the jaw. Fitzsimmons finished without a mark on his body and did not receive a single fair punch from the sailor in the entire contest. As Sharkey rolled over on his back, Wyatt Earp, the referee, announced that Fitzsimmons had struck him foul with his knee, and that the decision should go to Sharkey. The decision was received with hoots and jeers, and Earp disappeared just in time to avoid rough handling. It was clearly an unfair decision, as the knockout blow was a fair punch on the jaw. The crowd became boisterous and cursed Earp loud and long. The unanimous sentiment was that Fitzsimmons had been robbed in the most cold-blooded manner." -Jeffersonville Evening Journal I wish you'd steer clear of my posts and my threads ,instead of doing you best to fu*ck up everything you come into contact with Klan Man take your bigoted bile elsewhere.

Fitz had been in retirement for 2 years and was drunk the night before .William Muldoon carried him home.
Hardly adequate preparation to fight a man 12 years younger and 39 lbs heavier.
How many fights did Corbett have when he beat Sullivan? =12.
Jeffries had 16 fights when he defended against 15 fight Corbett.
