I myself still think it's impressive. Aside from that I would say Fitz has the better resume.

Jeffries was a precocious talent who could have been ruined early if he were not so durable.

UOTE="Mendoza, post: 18151914, member: 19227"]While I agree with you that Jeffries beat better, he beat Ruhlin sooner than Fitz did. The Sharkey that Fitz beat was a ruined fighter.

But you hit the nail on the head. Beating Fitzsimmons twice seals it. Fitz was deadly from 1899-1904.[/QUOTE]
Sharkey who went the 25rds with Jeffries to a very close decision which some felt he deserved and some felt he should have shared.Sharkey was"a ruined fighter ?" after the Jeffries bout, yet Ruhlin, whom Fitzsimmons half killed in 6 rds was in top shape, and it's a great win for Jeffries?Ed Morbius said it right, your double standard is so blatant its absurd.
Do you think Sharkey was in half a bad a shape as Ruhlin was after Fitz had finished with him?Fitz knocked Ruhlin out cold ,he was dragged back to his corner completely unconscious. In his corner Ruhlin vomited blood and was bleding from the ears,,his handlers were very concerned, fearing fatal results.Ruhlin' his face was very badly marked up and his body had been severely punished his eyes were closed.Fitz came over to his corner and lifted his head up sayin"brace up old fellow I didn't mean to hurt you so bad ", but when he let go Ruhlin's head fell forward and there was no response.Billy Madden and Jim Corbett took 10 minutes to get Ruhlin able to leave the ring. Jeffries visited Ruhlin's dressing room Ruhlin right eye was nearly swollen shut ,his left eye was badly discoloured and swolled and his face was the colour of uncooked liver. His mouth was so swollen that he could not be understood and he could hardly speak above a whisper."
".When he was finally able to leave his dressing room two men supported him by the arms .He could hardly walk and twice staggered as f about to fall. Ruhlin was in a bad way While in the dressing room he passed out and was unconscious for an hour.Ruhlinstayed the night on a cot in Madison Square Garden because he was too weak to travel.
Even in the early morning hours Ruhlin's situation was precarious.he talked incoherently and lapsed occasionally into unconsciousness".
A doctor said that Gus was in a state of total physical collapse. He was fearful that Fitz's blows had caused blood clot to form on the brain.Physicians worked over him all night and it was not until 3.30am that full consciousness returned. When the doctor tried to examine his body,Ruhlin winced with pain.He breathing was irregular. After about another hour Gus vomited and said he felt better. Both of his eyes were almost closed and his face appeared as if it had passed through a threshing machine, his right arm was black and blue where Fitz's gloves landed ,and his breast was mass of bruises."
Sharkey was in nowhere near that state after finishing on his feet against Jeffries. The New York World scored it for Sharkey ,The Asbury Park Daily thought it a draw,The New York Journal thought a draw was justified. The San Francisco Chronicle gave it a draw,The NationalPolice Gazette felt Sharkey was the winner. So a close competitive fight in which the decision could have gone either way.
In short nothing remotely like the one sided, brutal beating that Fitz handed out to Ruhlin.
Fitz knocked Ruhlin SPARK OUT as he did Sharkey twice Jeffries never managed that in 2 fights each with them!. You're a joke!

I can't see any reason to say Jeffries had better results. Fitz iced some dudes that Jeffries really struggled with.

But seeing as Jeffries beat Fitzsimmons twice there's an argument he should be rated above him.

    Unforgiven,

Who did Fitz beat that was better than himself? Jeffries beat Fitz twice.

Fitz struggled with Corbett more than Jeffries did. Corbett was in the lead and floored Fitz.

Jeffries KO' Ruhlin a round faster than Fitz.

Jeffries 2-0 vs Sharkey. Fitz 1-1, and faced a fading Tom Sharkey in the 2nd match.

0-3, and counting in this thread. Jeffries was seen as the next champion early in his career by the San Fran press.

FITZ ko'd Corbett in 14rds with one body shot.Jeffries had to come from behind to stop Corbett in the 23rd round. Jeffries did not ko Ruhlin faster than Fitz ,in fact he didn't ko him at all, Ruhlin's corner retired Gus between the 5th and 6th rds.Fitz knocked Ruhlin spark out unconscious for 10 minutes and Jim Corbett had to drag him back to his stool where he passed out again Doctors were in attendance with him all night in case he died.. Ruhlin was damaged goods when he went in with Jeffries.
Sharkey was prime for the first Fitz fight and Fitz took him out with one punch in 8rds.Everybody knows this.

Since you have been corrected several times on this , can we take it that you will not be repeating this bull sh*t again?

Bottom line Fitz fought Ruhlin once and kod him in 6 rds he fought,Choynski and kod him in5rds, he fought Sharkey twice and kod him in 8rds and 2rds. Jeffries fought Ruhlin twice, the first fight was a 20rds draw ,the second was a win for Jeffries via a corner retirement between the 5th and 6th rds, this was after Fitz had nearly killed Ruhlin. Jeffries fought Sharkey twice ,winning a 20rds fight and a 25rds one that had observers divided on who won it. Fitz knocked a 30 years old, reigning champ Corbett out in14rds with one body shot .Corbett 3 years older, coming out of a year and a half's retirement was in front going into the 23rd when Jeffries ko'd him. Fitz has the better winning resume.
