Bob Fitzsimmons Vs Jim Corbett Veriscope Film

The Klompton footage came out after this footage, as far as I know it is the most recently uploaded Corbett-Fitzsimmons footage.

 

I think the available footage gives a reasonable idea of how they fought and the complexion of the fight.

I personally like Fitz a lot more than I do Corbett - but in all objectivity, the inactive Corbett was giving Fitz a good going over culminating in a hard KD in round 6.

Corbett obviously wasn’t a KO artist but he must have had more steam on his punches than he is generally given credit for. Per reports, he even managed to shake up Jeffries at least once in their first fight .

While credit has to be given to Fitz for his durability and tenacity, it seems that Corbett’s lack of match conditioning was an equally significant factor in the fight’s ultimate outcome.

Just from a betting perspective, if they had rematched some time shortly after, I don’t that I wouldn’t have laid some money on Corbett.

Corbett can appear a bit ungainly and sometimes fluid but at least in the face of Fitz, he was highly effective through and including round 6 - and he did last another 8 rounds or so, only to be laid low by a body punch.

I can’t recall what the scoring was (if it was properly revealed) as at the time of the KO.

A close fight I’m guessing but perhaps with Fitz getting his nose in front in the latter stages?
