Thanks for the posts. I'll read them this week-end. I read about this fight in Pollack's 'In the Ring with Bob Fitzsimmons', it must have been heart-breaking, even (or especially) for Bob, to have seen Dempsey take a terrible beatdown so gamely. Fitzsimmons on occaision said he tried to develop himself as a quick KO artist because he hated to hand out these extended beatings.
What these articles show is that all the issues that are discused in boxing today were discused then. People are saying that Fitz is a heavyweight who has somehow sweated himself down to the middleweight limit.
