If guys like Greb and Fitz look bad to me on film, it must be them, and not me. I will alter the evidence presented by their career results to suit my view, because it justifies my opinion of old fighters. Nothing can stop me.

Not them. Product of their times. Probably all had great speed power and reflexes and with the right training would make fine fighters in any era. But fighting like that will get you killed 1930- present.

Tommy Loughran had a handful of big fights in the 30's.
He beat Sharkey, Impelletiere, Levinsky, Hamas, Gastanaga, Uzcudun, Campolo, Schaff, Baer, all in that decade. Hell of a list.

Harry Greb fought Loughran. Loughran didn't kill him. Greb won.

Greb fought against 1930s opponents and he beat them.

I'm sure that had Ali fought in the 1900s, people like you would tell that he'd be killed with this leaning defense and lack of guard.

There is not one good way of fighting. Guys like Tunney, Gibbons, Loughran and Walker were amazing fighters with excellent skills, they weren't inferior in any way to more "modern" ones. Fitzsimmons didn't fight that way because he was a product of his times. He fought like nobody ever did, because he created his own style. Show me one fighter who fought from Fitzsimmons stance. You won't find any in his era or in any other era.

Fitz was a thinker. Do you really think that he wouldn't think about using a high guard if it'd make him better? I mean, high guard isn't a rocket science - even children know that it's good to protect the chin. Bob wasn't stupid, he had more experience than any modern fighter. He fought across decades and beat champions from another era. He was so good that people were scared of him when he was 40+ years old.

A lot of people thought that Fitz didn't know how to fight. He made them pay for that.
