Bob Foster & Michael Spinks, two great Light Heavyweights, both had contrasting experiences when campaigning as Heavyweights. Foster was unfortunate enough to run into a peak Joe Frazier and a very capable Muhammad Ali, impossible tasks for perhaps any LHW that ever lived, whereas Spinks was more fortunate to run into an aging Larry Holmes. Foster was bludgeoned by Frazier and stopped by Ali, Spinks decisioned Holmes twice and made a few titles before being annihilated inside a round by Tyson. Question is, who do we think would be the greatest Heavyweight that either of these two men could have had realistic chances of beating? Any era. Discuss.
Foster was usually the stronger man in the ring, and he fought like it. In the heavyweight ranks, he comes in as the weaker man, and he struggles to adapt. If we're talking about lineal champs, I don't think Foster could have beaten many. Maybe he could have beaten some of the early 20th century, the lighter ones such as Burns. I can only see him beating a weaker link such as Neon Leon in the post Louis era.
