Foster is one of my favourite fighters of all time but came up a bit short at heavyweight. I was thinking what Heavyweight champions through time would Foster have taken the crown from, if he got a crack. Is there any you think he would be winning against?

Hm, Leon Spinks probably. Perhaps, Michael Spinks. Hm, Tommy Burns and Marvin Hart perhaps. That´s it, I think. He probably would have picked up a belt in the 90s like Bentt or in the 00s like Valuev.

    Agreed.

Michael Spinks was better outfitted at HW than Bob Foster.

Leon Spinks would be his best chance but I'm not prepared to give Foster the edge.

I agree with this statement, but he does have a chance against a few. What about Jim Braddock? Even Walcott and Charles he has an outside chance against. And Hart and to a lesser extent Burns.

I think that fights against Carnera and Rahman might be interesting and tell us quite a lot about how Foster might compate with some of the previous heavyweight champions.

James Toney rocked Rahman pretty well in their second match-up.

Reminds me of Bonavena, whom took Frazier's best but was dropped by sneak right hands from Folley and Ellis. Rahman in turn took Tua's best but was hurt worse by sneak sharpshooters then bigger "clubbers".

Who knows if Foster could dent that kind of chin with a similar right hand to Toney's.

    This is a ridiculous statment.

Just how many of the pre Joe Louis champion were not on a higher level than the best heavyweights Foster was beating?

    Probably not Jack Johnson?

Does that imply that he has a fair chance against Jack Johnson and a good chance against everybody else?

This is what anoys me about people like you. You repeat add tedium that anybody who picks the old timers is dilusion, and then you make totaly absurd picks like Bob Foster beating Jack Dempsey.

I might pick Jack Dempsey to beat Joe Frazier, but I don't pick Georges Carpintier to beat him, which is the equivalent of what you are doing.

This is very probably true. It was n't just the creme de la creme heavies like Ali and Frazier that Bob lost to,but pretty moderate ones too.

Well I cant see him beating corbett. He is a lot slower, his defence isnt as good, he probably isnt as strong. The only possible advantage he might have is one punch power, although even that is not set in stone. In fact, Corbett even has a better chin, even though Corbett's chin is generally considered shakey. I think Corbett gets a pretty comfortable stoppage win.

Jeffries vs Foster is as big a mismatch as most of his other heavyweight fights. In fact probably more so, as Jeffries was a big heavyweight with world class strength, power, size and general ability. There is nothing whatsoever to give even a slight indication that Foster might hang with Jeffries. Personally, i dont think has a prayer against Fitzsimmons either.

As i said, Burns or Hart are the first guys i would start to consider him a chance against.
