Under old day weigh in rules, it would be the 168lbs version of Toney who would be fighting Foster, just making 175lbs, he would’ve been more than that in his 168lbs fights. Toney beats him.
James wasn't at his best at 175. Assuming Toney does show up, its very very hard. Foster can outbox him with his jab and keep him worried with his amazing left hook. But IMO Toney was fearless and would eventually get inside and start landing big counter right hands. If anyone has the ability to break through Fosters jab, its someone with the chin and defensive ability and sheer fearlessness of Toney. I can see Foster outboxing Toney for a few rounds with his jab but eventually Toney will get inside and land some big shots. Foster will land some big shots of his own and push Toney back. In a 12 round fight, i favour Foster to win by decision as i think he would easily win the first 3-4 rounds before the fight would become competitive. In a 15 round fight, i slightly favour Toney to score a late knockdown and break through Fosters defense. Foster wasn't used to guys breaking through his defense/jab at 175 and Toney is out of the few guys who can do it. 12 rounds: Foster UD 7-5 or 8-4. 15 rounds: Toney by late late stoppage or something like a controversial 8-7 decision.
Foster comfortably. When he gets past the jab and right hand the short left hook awaits. It's too much to overcome. Foster comfortably for mine.
