Foster was nearly invincible as a light heavyweight, but would he be able to cope with the slick boxing Byrd.
    Tale of the Tape
    Foster - 6'3
    180 lbs
    79 inch reach
    Byrd - 6'1
    210 lbs
    74 inch reach

    Who wins?

Interesting...... But I'll go with the "Byrd" over Bobby Foster.......... Foster had little to NO luck with fighters / boxers who were 200 pounds or more.... Foster had the power, but Chris Byrd had the skills.... Byrd takes Foster to school over 12 rds..... Peace....

Actually Foster has 7 wins over these types including 3 in the very first round. The longest any of these lasted was 6 rounds. He has 5 losses vs said fighters. Admittedly these were mostly mugs but still in all. His record vs rated 200 pounders is abysmal.

I ponder if he would have had a little more success if he made a fully dedicated foray into the heavyweight ranks ala the likes of Charles and Spinks instead of most always going straight back down to 175. As it was he just dabbled here and there, and didn't weigh that much against these guys.

I think he'd HAVE to have been more effective if he did commit 100%, but it's up to personal opinion how much so. He certainly never would have beat Frazier or Ali, but what 175'er would.

Foster's said the only reason he took the Ali and Frazier fights was money.

His corner was telling him it wasn't worth getting up during the last few knockdowns against Ali, as they knew he could potentially get damaged and they knew where they were going back down to anyway.

I hear you all, but I'll still go with Byrd by a decision over Foster at 200 pounds...

Me too, Foster could not intimidate Byrd who faced some big punchers ,and was very slick defensively, the "Thin Man" had a very fine jab buit it wouldnt be enough to win this Byrd by Dec. Foster said he had great difficulty putting on weight to tangle with the heavies,he was naturally the Praying Mantis type physically ,like Sandy Saddler ,and even as retired older men they did not appreciably get heavier.

Don´t you think that the right hand behind the jab and Foster´s power would make Byrd a bit careful, perhaps careful enough to lose a very close decision?

I use to like watching Chris Byrd. I was a regular watcher of USA's Tuesday Night Fights, and Byrd was a regular there.

Byrd's speed will be less of a problem for Foster, as Foster is use to dealing with guys two divisions lighter. Foster would also have little to fear in Byrd's power.

I see this fight looking similar to Tarver vs. Jones, or Forrest vs. Mosley. I think that Forrest would time Byrd with his jab, score with his cross, and never let Byrd find his rythem.
