That's just repeating what you said earlier. How does that adress your 'moving-up-in-weight' contention ? The Ali point, which you appear to have missed, is that KDs are NOT the measure of a chin. KOs are. Calzaghe was never stopped. And the four KDs in his career are not as significant in assessing a chin as KOs. (And Calzaghe's chin-strength was less based on elusiveness than was Ali's, who was far more difficult to land cleanly on than Joe) He was unhurt by Hopkins and was the agressor for the two minutes prior to the KD and the 45 seconds AFTER the KD. He was stunned by Jones' wrist shot (Accidental but illegal) and was the agressor for the balance of that first round. And regarding Mitchell, Calzaghe was so rocked that he got up and laid a serious licking on Mitchell STOPPING him later in that same round. Foster was better than Mitchell, yes. That's why I picked him to win this hypothetical fight, possibly by stoppage, yes.
I was correcting myself. Then why even bring knockdowns up? You said that Calzaghe was knocked down less than iron-chinned Ali.. what exactly were you trying to prove by this? It's significant when a fighter is dropped and rocked like he was against Mitchell. I strongly disagree. I know the outcome of the fight, regardless Calzaghe was hurt.
calzaghe can be hurt fairly easy. keeping him hurt is the main issue. he has superb recovery skills. in this matchup it won't be such an issue for bob but for others it would be.
Depends what you mean 'hurt'. Stunned yes, like absolutely any boxer can be stunned momentarily. Hurt is a different matter. He wasn't even hurt from Roy Jones Junior's forearm smash to the face, he was up by 2.
nah. he was hurt against roy. still feeling it in the second, he didn't look right in the eyes. he was hurt against kessler, brewer, mitchell, eubank. but like i said, keeping him tied down is another issue. even when he's hurt/stunned he keeps throwing back at an alarming rate.
Fair enough. I brought them up because someone (not you) brought them up as evidence of Calzaghe's alleged chin problems. I was trying to show that KDs are not the measure of a jaw. As i Mentioned, the significance pales when the guy knocked down was the agressor for the balance of the round when he got back up. In all four KDs of his career. In the Mitchell case, he KO'd Mitchell a minute or two later. Ali was far more elusive and difficult to hit than Joe IN HIS MID SIXTIES PRIME. Liston couldn't land on him at all. He was too fast. In Ali's 'second career' he was not as fast, and got tagged a few times, notably by Frazier in their first fight and later by Ernie. (When Wepner knocked him down, he went to his corner and was almost celebratory with his ring-man, Al Braveerman. He said " Start the car, we’re going to the bank, we’re millionaires.’ And Al said, ‘You’d better turn around. Because he’s getting up, and he looks pissed off.’') So Ali had both. Elusiveness AND an Iron Jaw. Again, not meaning to imply that Calzaghe was even in the same general league as Ali, but hurt or not, he got up and KOd the guy. Much like Ali did to Cooper in similar circumstances. (And, Ol' Enrey hurt Ali much worse than Calzaghe was EVER hurt).
The fact that Calzaghe won the fight doesn't erase the fact that he was visibly hurt from the shot. As I said.. Foster ( obviously ) is a much harder puncher than Mitchell so it should be safe to assume what would happen if Foster caught Calzaghe with a good shot. Even a prime Ali I feel wasn't even as elusive as Calzaghe. I have visions of Ali getting caught flush more than I have Calzaghe. Liston couldn't land on him but that was a HUGE styles mismatch on the level of Jones-Toney.
