I'm not even a fan of Calzaghe but he gets way underrated by some. His activity level was insane. He had very good hand speed and was durable. He could fight inside and had good defense, especially for his style. The southpaw stance is another factor.

Meanwhile, Bob Foster, in my opinion, is one of the most overrated fighters ever. People say Calzaghe's opposition was weak, but look at the guys Foster was fighting on a regular basis. I look at Foster and see a pretty basic outside fighter with a punch (and no chin). Calzaghe by decision and Foster would do well not to get stopped himself.

Foster has a chance if he can keep Calzaghe at the end of his one-two. I don't really see that happening. What's Foster going to do when Calzaghe gets in his chest throwing 100 punches a round?

I don't see any reason to pick Calzaghe here.

    Rubbish.

    Super Joe destroyed Byron Mitchell.

Obviously you've never even seen the fight. :patsch

Firstly, Lord Byron was shot to pieces by then (bums and old men), but more to the point, Calslappy only won because a fringe group of African Killer Bees assaulted Mitchell upon his ring walk, rendering him thoroughly distraught and semi-dead.

Yet, God knows how, Joe still managed to get himself knocked on his ass!

any calzahge matchup thread needs to be prefaced with the fact that joe would have never fought any great fighter in their prime. this was proven in his career. foster i think is overrated as well but he is still a great fighter imo. joe was not. i think foster stops joe late but i don't rule out calzaghe making it the distance. foster's power i feel would keep joe's punch output low throughout the fight.

:huh It's called lulling your opponent into a false sense of security?

Super Joe did it to Bionic Byron, peak Jones and Sugar Nard Hopkins. WHAM, Super Joe falls over, opponent gets confident, then boom, (sounding like Yoel Judah here.) back comes the human blitz machine...

In the intrest of fairness, (and seriousness) I do think Calzaghe would of beaten Eubank, Benn, and even Toney. :D

Orriray said it all. Calzaghe was great at 168...not so much at 175. H2h foster beats any calzaghe. Just cause joe did not fight the kind of opponents that could exploit his flaws doesnt mean he didnt have them .

Foster jabs the **** out of him and knocks him down in the second with a short left. Calzaghe goes into survival mode and lasts the distance

Dump him via short left hook he never sees...

I rate Joe higher than many might, I really like him, but he simply has nothing for Foster. Foster outboxes him and outfights him.

If old Hopkins and older Jones can drop him, Foster will do the same, except Foster has more power and more in the tank to finish the job.

Please tell ,me this a bogus post ??? Are you kidding ? Foster by asolutely brutal knockout ! Afetr Joe slides around and flurry with quick punches (which Foster walks through). Calzaghe quickly realizes that the freakishly tall Foster (with a heavyweight wingspan) is incredibly hard to reach. And a much better bxer than advertised. Foster would have no respect for Calzaghe at all. By the 6th round, the fabled Foster left hook lands on Joe`s chin. His back finds a nice spot on the canvas !!! Calzaghe would NOT last the distance, Foster won`t let him ...
