Everyone is always going on about Roy winning the heavyweight title coming up from middle, but Foster moved up from light heavy only to be easily exposed by Ali and Frazier wouldn`t the same thing have happened to Roy vs Joe and Muhammad and wouldn`t Foster have done better against the slower punching Ruiz?

Ruiz puts on a Master Class in dirty boxing.

Ruiz grapples him to a boring decision win.

As much as I'd like to see Foster win, I think Ruiz's clinching and wrestling tactics wear Foster down to a late stoppage. Foster unlike Jones was never able to put on any muscle onto his 6'3 frame and that made him very vulnerable against heavyweights.

I think the most Foster ever weighed for a fight was about 188 lbs for the Frazier fight. He gave up 41 lbs to Ali, and 19 lbs to Ernie Terrell. Bob was a natural Lightheavy, and he never said he wasn't.

    Ruiz by stoppage.

I don't rate Foster at Heavyweight; he had made plenty of trips to the Heavyweight division to try out his luck and failed miserably each and every time. He lost to Doug Jones, Ernie Terrell, Zora Folley, Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali. He had wins over fringe contenders but nothing to lead me to believe that he could have any measure of success against John Ruiz.

I don't rate Jones at HW. Ruiz was hand picked. RJJ was a great fighter but this thread seems to be nothing more than a Foster slam.

I recall Foster saying that the main reason he tried his luck against heavyweights was because there was a lot more money in that division than at lightheavyweight. Inspite of getting brutally knocked out by Frazier, I heard he actually thanked him for the title shot because it was the biggest payday of his career. I seem to recall that both got drunk together after the fight and were very good friends.

Ruiz stops him let's be real.

He had a dirty ugly style but he was a 230lb top 5 contender for an entire era, he was on the same level as Rahman golota 2000 Holyfield and Byrd. He wasn't a bum.

He had holyfield hanging on for dear life for an entire round from one right hand.

Ali and Frazier would beat Jones no doubt, but not easily. Jones would still show his extraordinary talent for a couple of rounds before he got stopped.
Especially against Frazier he could look good before Frazier inevitably gets him.

Foster wasvery tall at LHW, he fought tall as wellwbut for ruiz who was 6'2 230 Foster would easily be in reach and Foster cannot take ruizs right hand period.
He hurt evander Holyfield worse with one punch than anyone in his career. Evander was GONE for an entire round.

I feel Jones fought against Ruiz using the same tactics Parker used vs AJ and I feel Parker would have beat Jones at heavyweight, I feel Frazier would have dealt with Jones a lot quicker than he would Parker who had a better chin.

Jones would have landed a lot less punches on Bryd than he did against the much slower Ruiz.
