Foster in a bomb fest by late stoppage ,both are down , and Saad finally succombs after shipping horrendous punishment.
Hard fight for both of them but I don't see it one sided. I see peak Saad absorbing Fosters bombs until Foster settles down to outbox him. This goes to either a points win for Foster or cut eye stoppage. Not beyond the realms of possibility though that Saad takes out Foster in the championship rounds.
I recently watched the first Saad Muhammed - Yaqui Lopez fight from 1978. Lopez was 6'2". I'm not putting Lopez in Foster's league but he was a very good fighter of similar size. Saad boxed very well and was very busy with the left hand, doubling up his jab and hook. That's the way I think he'd have to fight Foster, I just don't think it would be as effective. Foster had a very good jab himself. Ultimately, I just never trusted Saad's ability to avoid punches. I think Foster would eventually catch him and get him out of there late. Saad had amazing recuperative powers but he was never in with Foster.
I'd favor Foster by KO, but the opposite outcome is not out of the question either. Foster could hurt him, go for the kill, and get tagged with something big in return by a recooperating Saad, and I don't think Foster had the durability or reserve that Saad did. I'd favor him to land the bigger blows earlier though, which is why I'd probably favor him by stoppage.
i would never count Saad out of a fight. Sure it's easy to bet against him now looking back but while he was champ he would not wear down in one fight. Look at the second Lopez fight where it almost appeared he would be killed standing up and Saad came back by brutal kayo-1980's fight of the year. Matt was one of those fighters who actually became MORE dangerous when an opponent had him in trouble-like Marciano. So Matt was not your ordinary champion. he possessed superhuman will to win and I've seen him come from behind too many times to bet against him. The media felt the same way, hence the name Miracle Matthew.
I think Matthew takes this one by an upset split decision over Bob.He manages to avoid the left hook for most of the fight and takes it to Bob, nullifying any chances of Foster scoring a kayo.Foster's jab would manage to keep him in it, but not enough to win it.Saad Muhammad was one of the few light heavies who came after Foster who I would give a chance to beat him.
As it was said in a previous post...Saad was there to be hit...and you don't survive after being hit by Foster. Bob Foster by ko in 5.
I don't think highly of Saad but he was plainly d better fighter and fought d better opposition . Which 1 of Foster's opponents was anywhere near Saad's ability ? u have 2 go 2 his "HW" fights 2 find them and he got KOd every time he didn't fight a bum . Saad was much stronger than Foster , barely making d 175 limit , whereas Foster would have probably made 160 lbs 2day .
Matt tended to bleed sometimes, as well as absorb hard shots. He's not outboxing Bob from long range, and he has to contend with that hook inside. Plus, BF could be a debilitating body puncher, which could offset Matt's staying power. Saad Muhammad may have been sturdier, but that might not help him if he's the one taking all the punishment early, and he was a dangerously slow starter. (Matt produced NO first round knockouts until a couple of set ups in the late 1980s and early 1990s.) A killer like Bob, adept at picking off punches, was no kind of opponent to try rallying from a huge early deficit against. Watch him annihilate Rondon again, somebody who later took Shavers the ten round route. In the first 74 fights of his professional career, Mike Quarry was only counted out once, and we've all seen how that happened. Ditto for Tiger in his entire 82 fight career. Matt is not taking punch, after punch, after punch like that to somehow come out on top.
The motivated, pissed off Bob Foster of the Vicente Rondon fight would win. Otherwise, I give prime Saad a great shot.
Saad was a courageous warrior and a very dangerous man but too hittable ... Foster would take his head off ... you just don't trade with Bob Foster at 175 ...
No Longhorn, Saad wouldn't have had a chance...you said this very, very well..couldn't agree with anything more than this! That version of Bob Foster was as lethal as a black mamba.."a pissed off Bob Foster"..:deal
