Let's make this a little more interesting and put the fight at both lightheavy, and heavyweight. Who comes out on top at each weight?

Both weights I would favor Spinks. I think Spinks is a little too clever for Foster either way, although at both weights Foster would have a puncher's chance.

I'll take Foster. I think Spinks was not active enough to disrupt Bob's paced style, therefore Bob would have no trouble fighting his fight and landing something big with that huge armspan, possibly a left hook KO.

Foster was a very intelligent fighter.

Sure, but at least at Heavyweight, I'm very confident Spinks would win. Spinks would throw from different angles and get out.

I'd favor Spinks at both weights. Just think he is more durable-I think Spinks can take Foster's power better than the other way around.

.......I'd probably rooting for Foster though, as I detest the Jinx's style. Just terrible to watch IMHO.

This would be relevant if this was a battle of attrition, but it ain't. Foster was the more predatory fighter of the two and would take the front foot; Spinks would fight cautiously but be barely outscored over the course of the fight by the Foster jab. A surprisingly tame fight.

I detest his style as well. When I first watched him fight I was like, what the hell is that?

Marvin Johnson said the same thing as he headed into
"deep sleep" for a time being.

It obviously worked very well, it's just that it was very awkward and IMO very hard to watch.

Honestly, if you don't have 40 pounds or so on Foster (Which both Ali and Frazier did) then he's an absolute nightmare in the ring, especially H2H.

    Spinks, especially at HW.

More durable, awkward and frustrating style.

Relevant only in attrition? Why so? Yeah, they both have one punch power, but that doesn't guarantee anything.

If Spinks survives the initial rounds, it would favor Spinks IMHO.

A very interesting thread, and a nice balance of responses in favor of either one or the other.

What I would really like to see is an in depth analysis of both men's styles and best attributes from someone who knows these two fairly well.

    Lobotomy perhaps?
