Apart from beating the rugged ,but extremely limited Jeff Harding McCallum did nothing at lhvy.
Jones let him go the distance .Foster ko's him.

Good post surf, though i'd ad that Finnegan did not really get starched by Foster, not in the true sense of the term.It was much more of an exhaustion accumulative punishment stoppage.

Impressive though in that it showed Foster had that sort of thing in his arsenal against a near granite chinned fighter.

Thanks. Alas, you are correct. I was on a roll and should have stopped and chosen my terms more carefully. But it was impressive that Foster was the only guy to floor Finnegan and the only one to get the legit KO over him as well. Every other stoppage was due to cuts.

Foster was a concrete buster nonpareil.

Great discussion.I think the general consensus that Foster would be too big is correct. But when I joined this forum I said I thought McCallum was the modern Sugar Ray Robinson, though not quite as good.Still hold to that.I can think of 2 light heavies who I think would have beat Bob.Archie Moore and Harold Johnson, who both handled heavies better IMO.For me lesser men than Mike went a fair way with Bob,and Im convinced that in his latter days as champion,John Conteh would have beat him.Bob was still a great champion, but so was Mike.Underrated.Foster points 15.

Far lesser in talent, yes. But far greater in size and strength :smoke McCallum did nothing at LHW to convince me that he had what it took to go the distance against a Bob Foster. Foster on the other hand, did plenty to convince me that his howitzer blows could shatter McCallum's chin.

I definitely take your point.Agree that if he landed he could knock anybody out, including Mike.Could be wrong, but I never saw mike on the floor, albeit not against punchers like Bob.But he was very clever, and maybe could have fiddled it to go the distance. But maybe not.

Foster stopped a lot of people who had good chins. McCallum didnt just have a good chin, he had a great chin and he was a great fighter. He's not going to get hit as much as most of the guys Foster fought. He might not get hit as much as any of them. McCallum is better than any of the fighters Foster beat. Is Foster better than all of the fighters McCallum beat (or drew with)? Jackson, Curry, Collins, Kalambay, Watson, Graham, Toney, even Harding, very good fighters.

YES, with the exception of Toney who McCallum never beat, and maybe Curry at his absolute best, which he wasn't when he fought McCallum.
