Bob Foster always came up short at world level at heavyweight, but is would someone like Carnera be a winnable fight with the difference in levels? Or did Foster just not have the attributes to win at any decent level at heavyweight?
    Who wins this matchup?

Not really a difficult fight to call.

Foster was great at 175, but he seemed to hit a brick wall past that number, and not exclusively against teh best or brightest.

Carnera may just be too big and strong for the skinny Foster.

He overpowered guys like Jack Sharkey who hung in with Dempsey the sheriff doesn’t stand much of a chance unless he boxes like his life depends on it.

I think Sharkey took a dive in that one.

Foster would have to hit and run all night long to beat Carnera. He doesn't have the guns to hurt him and Carnera, even while no great shakes in the skills department, could certainly hurt him. Carnera has the reach etc on his side too if I'm not mistaken. I mean it's not impossible but I wouldn't bet on Foster winning.

I think Foster could hurt him alright.Sharkey floored him and he was no banger.A French lhvy floored him, too as did Stribling, though their 2 meetings were choreographed imo.

Fair points. Foster wasn't that much smaller than Sharkey.

I don't believe so, Sharkey just wasn't in his peak form. As good as The Boston Gob was, he could be a very hot and cold fighter.

Carnera stops Foster. Overwhelms the smaller man who does not have the legs to keep away. Carnera ko 10 where he mauls Foster in every round.
