There's a difference between being a damned hard puncher and a good finisher. Jones wasn't necessarily inclined to finish fights after watching Jimmy Garcia get fatally injured before his eyes (watch his fights before and after and you will generally see a difference in how he approaches the fight when hurt), but he could still hit hard when the need required.

He dropped the quite durable Johnson in the opening rounds, and basically put the fight on deep freeze from that point out. Golzales was dropped three times. Hall was dropped and stunned early, and it was only an inordinate amount of guts that kept him upright through most of that fight. Grant was down a couple of times as well. He even stunned Ruiz with a crisp counter right when he moved up and gave away over twenty pounds.

We aren't talking about someone who is feather fisted. We're talking about someone who could crack when he wanted to...And I don't see Foster walking through Jones' shots as easily as some do.

No argument there, RJJ could definitely be had at LHW as we've seen on numerous occasions. RJJ's speed would be a problem but he just wasn't the same fighter at 175...:think

I still think he could and would beat anyone at 168 in history.

Ive been watching a bit of Foster lately. He fought flat footed and dropped his righthand quite a bit when he jabbed. Roy Jones would take full advantage of that at his best. I think a prime Roy Jones makes him look silly, just too many errors for a speed demon to take advantage of. Foster had power, but landing on Jones at his best is very difficult. I think Jones wins easy.

Huh? Are all of you forgetting just how damn fast, and yes, powerful, Roy Jones was in his prime? It seems that Roy is being judged based on his work at the end of his prime, for what he did in the 2000s, rather than the decade where he was dominant, which was the 90s. The 90s version of Jones was too damn fast for Foster. Very few fighters get judged for what they did when they were slipping the way Roy gets judged. I'm no great fan of Jones, Jr., but I have to objectively say that man was super duper talented with blazing speed and reactions, and although he wasn't necessarily a great finisher at the bigger weights, and liked to coast, he was able to win almost every round he fought for most of the 90s with that phenomenal talent, and rarely got hit clean because of it. That Roy Jones would be very tough to outpoint or KO.
