Hill was stopped only once (i believe) in his long career, he could take a shot! And he was a slick finesse, boxer, i don't see Foster stopping Hill. I think Foster would win a close decision:deal in a mediocre, but entertaining scrap.
It may be wrong to do so, but I just cant help think that Losing to Tommy Hearns is a bad indicator of his chances against er...the real thing...Bob Foster. its the Albuquerque Sheriff for me. patient sniping most of the way, but if Virgil wants a Shoot-out ...Two-Gun Bob is more than ready.
Tommy Hearns decisioned Hill at 175. Foster is bigger and hit harder than Tommy at 175-although he's obviously slower. I'm afraid Bob would knock Virgil out.
I'd go for Bob too, but on points. He was a lethal puncher, but Hill had a great chin and would not be there to be hit. He'd peck with his jab and stay away from anything threatening from Foster. If Bob lands, I think Hill could take isolated right hands. The much smaller Fourie went 30 rounds with Foster, so I think Hill can last 12 or 15. I just don't think Hill has enough in his locker to threaten Foster. He had a nice jab and decent right hand but he came up short against an aged Thomas Hearns, although it was Hearn's rejuvenated left hook and not his big right which caused Hill the most problems. Foster with a comfortable decision over 15.
I like Hill he was a good champion but he lost all the big fights against Hearns, DM and Jones Jr. Foster would have KO'ed Hill without too much difficulty, Foster was a beast at light heavy.
