Bob Foster was technically better than both Ward and Kovalev

He wasnt,he wasnt in the same league.he was fighting very limited opposition.kovalev is deceptively skillful in the way he uses his attributes such as power and range very effectively.ward is in a different universe skillwise although im not a fan its hard to deny

I wouldn't say Foster was more technical superior to Ward, but he wass far superior to Kovalev, who IMO is even less technically superior than Ward.

Foster was 6'3" with a 79" reach. His jab was superb, and his KO power was very good.

His level of opposition is comparable to that of the assortment of characters and styles that Ward has faced with the exception that Foster dared to go to HW and faced HW greats such as Frazier and Ali.

At this point and time, neither Ward or Kovalev can hold Foster's jock strap, but perhaps in teh next 2-3 years Ward and maybe even Kovalev will keep building their win records to become as great as Bob Foster.

Going to heavyweight and getting anihilated shouldnt stack up as one of his greatest ideas or achievements

Getting ANNIHILATED by ATGs Frazier and Ali certainly count a lot for a boxer who dared to move up a division to fight the very best boxers the sport has ever produced.
Just think what would have happened to both Ward and Kovalev at the hands of Frazier and Ali.
In fact, imagine what would happen to Ward and Kovalev at the hands of far less boxer relative to Frazier/Ali, Deontay Wilder.

As someone who rates wilder as a novice and a bit of a sideshow,he would cause foster far more brain damage than ali or frazier, hes not greater but he would be far to big and powerful for foster

You all are of the opinion that today's boxer is more athletic. More better trained and conditioned, stronger and far superior to old school boxers.
    Foster was a career LHW.
Ali and Frazier were career HWs.

All things being equal and considering how far superior today's boxer is said to be (mostly by non-boxing writers/spectators) then Kovalev and Ward should be able to duplicate Foster's attempt at HW against today's HW champion of choice.

Please, no K2 type mealy-mouth excuses.

bob foster was a straight forward plodder, callum smith is he's modern day equivalent, a slick fighter like kovalev would make bits of him

More of the opinion that a 6"7 power puncher would hurt a great 170 pounder like foster than a light hitting ali or a 5"10 frazier.by no means is wilder in the same sentence in terms of greatness but it would be a complete blow out

A loss by KO is a loss by KO.
Foster got KO'ed by Ali and Frazier, and had Ward and Kovalev had the opportunity to have fought Ali or Frazier, they would have gotten KO'ed too.
The fact also remains that IF either Ward or Kovalev go to HW, they too will get KO'ed by today's HWs.
However, Ward has stated on numerous occasions that one day he'd like to fight a HW fight, so perhaps we'll see.

The difference being if either ward or kovalev step up,they will be fighting someone 18 stone and a murderous puncher, not a 5"10 15stone fighter or ali who was a bixer not a puncher.

The HW fighters today are big, slow and goofy with telegraphed punches. If you can see their punches coming, there's a strong chance that you'll come out the winner as evidenced by the success of former MW champions James Toney and Roy Jones Jr which happened in the modern era. Even Marco Huck, a 6'2 career Cruiserweight had success against a top 3 HW(and should of won).

Someone like Ali who was not only LIGHTNING quick despite being a heavyweight, could take a punch, had a high ring IQ and had underrated power would be a harder obstacle to overcome compared to the tall goofy HW's with glass jaws today.

Ward and Kovalev should be able to go up to hw and get destroyed by AJ and DW ??? I don't understand wtf you're trying to imply.

If foster went up to HW and BEAT either Frazier or Ali then that would be something one could "try duplicating" but that's so stupid.

Something more equal would be Ali and Joe going up and fighting AJ and or DW and getting laid out mid rounds for ali and early for joe.
